Three local tourists have died at the Jomo Kenyatta public beach after the boat they were in capsized leading to their deaths.
The three were part of a family of 15 that boarded the boat to enjoy Christmas at the beach. One died after drowning at the beach while two lost their lives while undergoing treatment at premier hospital. Mombasa Redcross Chairman and Kenya maritime authority chairman Hamisi Mwaguya has confirmed the incident

I was there and so many beachboys were offering me to take the boat yet they probably don't even know how to swim they just need money it's sad. Now there will be even less tourism because of the incompetence of the tour guides with boats

I once used those boats and vowed never to use them again. Boat riders at Lake Naivasha are better off coz they cannot allow anyone onboard without a lifejacket.
In Mombasa, it's a different case, no lifejackets are provided. They assume you can swim.

Boat operators need to be licensed to operate to ensure they meet the standards for carrying passengers. How come these folk did not have floating jackets on them. Also were the safety jackets working. This si what authroities need to check every boat carrying anyone. Also what made the boat capsize. Where was the coast guard to monitor all boats carrying folk to ensure theyhave the right carrying capacity and safety like life jackets on the riders etc

The general lethargy on safety measures and the procedures thereof should stop. Proactive preparations need to be in place Are they??
