  1. Great first record! The first I got was the 78 Frehley album, and the day I got my first cd player, I got kiss – alive, cinderella – heartbreak station and Lynch mob – wicked sensation

  2. Cash grabs are just that overpriced BS. Used records are risky and the market is shrinking. In the 70s records were over pressed and the quantity of vinyl suffered. Japanese and European vinyl was superior. Buying a record because of the color of vinyl is more likely a cash grab. If you take care of your vinyl it will stand the test of time. I have 50 year old vinyl that sounds great.
This is the new golden age for collectors .The reissues in Jazz , Blues and Rock has never been better. Audiophile pressing such as Analog Production are outstanding. It's all about the music

  3. I agree. The lacquer and vinyl are wasted if there is no music on Side 4. Fill up the side with unreleased tracks so buyers get their value for money. I don't buy LPs if I see side 4 has an etching.

  4. The etching/hologram thing blows when it happens to a reissue that should be four sides. Soundgarden’s Badmotorfinger and GNR’s Appetite are the worst offenders. So instead of Paradise City ending a side as it should, it’s in the middle of side two. Messes up the flow and is just plain weird. All so I can look at a funny hologram once.

  5. I’m a cheapskate and have a $1 limit for lps, and a .10 cent limit for 45s. I’ve amassed a TON of wonderful records and spent hardly anything doing so. It’s also called Patience. I spend a lot of time sitting on the floors of record stores diggin’ through thei β€œdollar boxes.” It’s how I enjoy the hobby and never worry about cost. Happy hunting!

  6. Side D etching, thankfully haven't come across many but I'm not a fan! Had blink 182's self titled album and they just etched the logo on side D. Replaced it with another pressing that had an extra track and stretched the album out over all 4 sides.

  7. Fortunately, you can still find a lot of good old used records on the market, which in most cases sounds better than new remastered records. In the last two years, I mostly bought old and analog mastered records.πŸ‘

  8. Used to be records were around eight bucks, and they were better. They hardly needed cleaning. These 180 gram jobs attract dirt like crazy. Years ago exiles on main Street was 50 bucks. Meanwhile my early 80s copy of China Girl still sounds great. I did recently get a double album of Queens greatest for 25 bucks

  9. there are many cheap $10..$15 new records, along with the promo ones, and the old ones for as low as $5… it’s called EP and β€œhouse music”

it’s those who buy popular stuff who pump the demand and thus the price, leaving many other things unheard and unwanted

  10. RE : Side D etchings… ! yeah first time I saw this was the Thurston Moore album on Geffen Psychic Hearts – not a bad album kinda memorable – the art was sad , actually maybe did reflect the music wasn't just a symbol so fit in that package IMO – the first LP was green transluscent vinyl the 2nd album was the etching with Black vinyl – side C was a full side noise jam – . I would never buy an album for a chachkie though – prefer black vinyl as well or quietex.

  11. People don't like etchings on a fourth side that has no recording,
and they're complaining about high prices. Hmmm.
What would they think of a solitary three or four minute aria on one side
and the other side a plain, smooth blank with no art or anything else, for $40.50?
That is what a $1.25 Victor record from 1910 would have cost in today's money.
Yeah. Look it up, do the inflation thing, and think about it for a few months before you rant on the subject again.

  13. Man I hate the side 4 etching. Like the first time I saw it (The Aquabats "The Fury of the Aquabats") I thought it was clever, but then when The Pretty Reckless "Death By Rock and Roll" had one, it really started to bug me. Like, I feel like that record could've been on one disk. What am I supposed to do with that etching? Frame it and put it on the wall, then never listen to the last few tracks on the album again? Or Green Day's "Insomniac" 25th anniversary edition. Like, you put live versions of 8 of the 14 songs on side 3, why not just find versions of the other 6, or demos or something. The etching looks cool, but like, how often am I going to be looking at that? If that record is out of it's sleeve, it's probably on the turntable.

  14. Love those old days where you would take your records to parties and put your initials on them, it was an item to be used rather than a collector's object you have to keep in pristine condition. Can't imagine there are many collectors today writing on the front cover with a black marker! About those etchings, they are annoying but I have an album where the band put a remix of one of the tracks as a bonus on side 4 and guess what, I never play it. So it doesn't really matter in the end. Live tracks would be cool though. And unlike CDs, where the bonus tracks ruin the flow of an album sometimes, on a separate side of vinyl I don't have to listen to them if I don't want to.

  15. You would think these Record companies would be rushing to build more record making places so they can rip us off even more??? THAT IS WHAT REALLY SHOCKS ME!!! πŸ˜€ + There is a Record coming out this week that is Β£54.99(Double clear LP) & I want it but do I do what they want & let them rip me off???(Yeah I know they are not forcing me to buy it) I don't know anymore(maybe I'll just buy 1 or 2 Records a year then) πŸ™

  16. I recently picked up a 1923 78 rpm shellac from 1923 with side 2 etched with zig zags and the word "Victor". It looks cool because the etch is much deeper than what we get on the relatively thin 33 rpm discs and I'm not playing it anyway.

  17. I don’t have a problem with etchings on the 4th side. I Hate when a double album has three songs per side. If they can put all the songs on 3 sides they should do it. Having to flip an album after only 2 or 3 songs is ridiculous!
