I got system with zen 2 Ryzen 2700x with b chipset board from guy that upgraded to 5th gen Ryzen on zen 3 with x3d cachs. He kept powersuppy, case and cpu cooler.
I hauled it home and ordered about 80 euro of parts from Chinese warehouse in Poland so it arrived in 10 days. I got nice mini ATX case that can fit 360mm radiator or gpu. Stock AMD wright cooler without RGB that's just enought to cool that 2700x. With this I put it all together and started looking and paired it with my old Radeon 7970 (same as Radeon 580X and r280x but instead of 8 gigs of Vram it has 3gigs and it's made by global founderies fab so clocks are 30% lower.
This was all for just 180 euro, 280 euro including Radeon 7970 that I already owned.
I spent additional money 80 USD to upgrade CPU to 3950x and surprisingly that ASRock b350's power management keeps it at full clocks.
Later I bought 64gigs of cheapest quad channel ddr4 and used Radeon 6800xt for about 300 euro for used 6800xt.
Only downside is that PC doesn't have pcie 4.0. I don't understand why tho and can't use direct access memory in my GPU so in high framerate games or CPU capped games I lose about 30% fps due to old board not having pcie4.0 and zen2 having slow cores but I don't own high refresh rate monitor anyway so I don't care.
This seems like a really bad CPU and platform choice. I just built out the same specs on pcpartpicker for $700 with an 15-13400F and H610M mobo for $700. That's 2 generations newer and MUCH MUCH faster in gaming at 1080p and especially multiplayer online games. I don't think that $70 saved is worth building on a two-generations-old CPU as a platform.
You can usually find IO shields for a motherboard on ebay for 10 or less. Even for Dell motherboards pulled from cases where the IO is cut into the case. 😉
For 1440p gaming I think just drop a RX 6700 xt and adequate monitor, but that is twice the cost on new stuff. For 4k gaming, savings on used parts is huge compared to new parts but you spend around 4x at least from this use build.
having a price in the title and rgb in the thumbnail doesn't sit right with me. if i'm concerned about price, i'm not concerned about aesthetics. Also let's be real, most of us are not adolescents–RGB isn't just tacky, it's not in the best performing fans, it consumes a modicum more power, & honestly during operation lights can be a distraction in the periphery
I always go mixed with used and bnew parts but mostly used since I started building in 2009. Saves a lot of cash and allows me to get higher performing parts than what my budget allows with all bnew. I'm just being wary now with used gpus and psu since most of them are used in mining. First time I got a really bad condition gpu in 2020 so I went bnew in 2022. 😅 If you see even a bit of rust in gpu metal parts it's a red flag and must turn around real fast. 👌
I bought a used 3060ti and praticed my soldering on it. Some of the best money i ever spent
Brian, I recently got a HP Pavillion Laptop with Intel i5 10300H, 8 GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Nvidia GTX 1650 DDR6 4G, 15 inch IPS Screen for $340. Was that a good deal?
Ik you cannot compare it to consoles, but 400$ PS5 digital destroys it in performance, price And value
Unreal engine 5.1 and in my experience, in DX12 mode, Fortnite has become less demanding if your hardware supports it (which this setup fully does).
i3-12100F is cheaper and smokes the 3600, even beats the 3700X in games.
I got a used gtx 1080 for 130 usd for my build but I would’ve gotten the 6600xt if it was in my budget
wait is that Slenderman in fortnite?
ur aussie stop using usd prices cuz this would be almost 1200 in aud
I was confused about the price but that was like yeh that’s definitely USD lol
I think it's a good idea to use the brand new price and then mention the savings with used parts. The latter can vary much more than the former and it better illustrates how much you can save buying used.
For $650 you can build a beast of a used PC right now as well.
Is this decent for Microsoft Flight Sim 2020?
That I/O Shield 2:30 is totally destroyed.
Did a similar thing in january one year ago: bought a used HP machine in a mini case. Ryzen 2600, 8 Gigs RAM, GTX 1050 Ti, 256 SSD, 1TB HDD for 260 €. Great value, especially at that time!
Now I am looking for a better graphics card and thought about a RX 5700 XT for 130 bucks or maybe a RX 6700 XT although I am still on 1080p.
Since you asked for feedback, I really like this "secret new vs used" approach. Showing upfront what you can get new, and still picking out a reasonably cheap parts list that anyone can easily replicate (at least at the time of release), and that being the ONLY price mentioned anywhere until the end is honest. However, explaining how if you look in the used market, you could get some parts for cheaper is good advice to newcomers.
The one suggestion I have is putting more emphasis on the commonality of your deals. In addition to the price you got your parts for, I would recommend also bringing up the typical asking price other local listings had. For example, the 6600 goes for $170-190 USD in my area and $125 is completely unheard of; others without this knowledge might come out of the video expecting the same price you got yours.
I recently rebuilt my pc, had just a 3400g in there before hand. Reflashed the a320 and whacked a 5600 and Rx6600 in there and it runs everything I throw at it at 1080p High-Ultra.
My monitor is 75hz and and God of War hasn't dropped below 75fps yet. So happy with it.
I agree the new update for Fortnite has made it fun again, my youngest son and I have been playing it the last few days.
Hi there are older GPUs like the 900 series NVIDIA GPUs still worth buying? I have a lot in my area for under $50 and I want to use them for flipping a pc. What do you guys think?
great content 🙂
As someone whose always been a mid-tier pc gamer and the last 3 years into the GTX/RTX80/Ti GPU realm, the value of higher end stuff is getting much worse than it used to be imo. PC Gaming in general is heading to more an elitist tier gaming product which it shouldn’t be!!! Everyone should be able to pc game regardless of their pc budget!
Awesome content, as ever…!
can you undervolt gpu and still get max boost clocks ?
What if I opt for the Ryzen 5 5500 instead of Ryzen 5 3600 would be it also good for A320 Motherboards?
I'm building the same build but just a bit different using NVMe ssd 512gh , 250 gb HDD and a 480gb SATA SSD all in all it came under $750 the only used part is the Rx 6600 as I wanted a Rx 6650xt but it's sold out new and used in my area even in my country 😑 so the available one was the 6600 could have gone for a 3060ti but aiming to build a AMD gaming PC
That backplate is RIP..
That is one crackerlackin gobsmackin awesome build for the price!👍
Stil love my ryzen 5 3600
Excellent concise video Yes Man, loving the new parts price guide idea. Definitely helpful for those wary of used or just unable to get the parts used locally. Like how you covered everything from purchase to building to undervolting and gameplay all in a consumable 12 mins
Used 6600 could be still underground warranty
why not get a 5500 cpu which is better for the same price
Cool build indeed. I'd recommend buying a brand name SSD from Crucial or WD. Or at least put your OS on something smaller but more reliable.
PSU is the same, be patient and look for discount PSUs with 10y warranties. High upfront cost that saves you headaches and money over a 10y span. 5/7y warranty may be OK if you only game a couple hours a day.
Hello Brian, can you please help me undervolt my GTX 1060 6GB EVGA non-SC version that has only one fan? And maybe keep the performance or even get better performance. Even freshly cleaned and thermal paste changed it still hits like 80-80 something degrees in some games and I would like to achieve under 80 degrees in any game if possible.
I was considering building one seeing all the reasonable prices for R53600s as of late. Gaming, Feel like I keep ending back with Windows 10 Enterprise. Windows 11, Games okay but I find the UI annoying also. It is much harder to bork Windows entirely imho than to bork Linux (every January I manage to bork at least one machine on Manjaro – Nvidia driver gets taken out/wrecked). Ended up on Arco Linux though. My main rig still is similar to the listed build because it does most of what I want well. Also am thinking of building a Xeon for the data center end at some point. I did have concern mostly for the 20 tb hdd. Might be time for a rig with ECC memory in my life next. I feel this is a solid entry level gaming rig, can optimize for performance. Honestly would be interested in where the breakeven is (has to vary depending on games) for gaming as far as the budget goes.
Which is better? Used or refurbished motherboard?
6600 is such an insane value GPU in the sea of overpriced cards today, I could only wish AMD continues restocking Navi 23s for a little while because I have a lot of doubts that Navi 33 would get this cheap.
hi
