This Simple Trap Will Get Rid of Fruit Flies (Drosophila) in One Night!

Don’t stress if fruit flies invade your home—it’s not about poor hygiene but a sign your kitchen is well-stocked! These tiny pests love decaying fruit and vegetables. To tackle the problem, check your fruit, potatoes, and onions regularly, remove any damaged produce, and keep your trash clean. If you need a quick fix, try a simple trap using juicer pulp, apple cider vinegar, and yeast to lure them in. Once trapped, release them outside or freeze them for easy disposal.

While common traps with vinegar and dish soap are ineffective, using chopped fruit works best. For those who want to breed fruit flies (for research or as pet food), flightless mutant flies are a great option. These creatures have a rapid breeding cycle and play an important role in biology and ecosystem health. #drosophila #fruitflies #insects #prayingmantis #terrarium

  1. Hi. I have tried a variant of this trap, with rotten fruit. It is a very effective way, although my constant battle with ripening fruit can draw them away. Fruits like apples and strawberries are best eaten at room temperature, so keeping them in the fridge and getting them out to warm up before eating. Any left over fruit or core of apples go into the trap to oxidise and tempt the little critters.
