This Russia’s New Fighter Jet Leaves America in the Dust

It is indeed true that the SU-57 is a competent aircraft with shallow observability features, powerful engines, greater payload and even crazier maneuverability. The defining feature of the ‘fused wing and body’ Generation 5 jet is the radar array spread all around the aircraft, allowing it to practically ‘look’ in all directions possible.

In November 2018, Chief Designer and Director of the Sukhoi Design Bureau Mikhail Strelets claimed that the SU-57 could fully perform air-to-air and air-to-ground tasks, unlike the F-22 and F-35, which were designed for a particular role.

  2. How does it leave “America in the dust!!!”? It just performed its first flight a few days ago and is mostly untested in real combat. If it performs like the rest of Russias junk weapons in Ukraine….America has nothing to worry about lol😂

  3. Yeah, all 12 of the SU-57's Russia has built are definitely better than the over 200 F-22's the US has. The SU-57 has proven its worth in Ukraine as well. What's that? It hasn't been deployed in Ukraine? Wonder why?

  4. …..and the titanium that went into the SR-71 came from Russia at the time. The US certainly could've made the alloys needed completely in-country, but why waste your resources when you can use another country's resources instead?

  10. SU-57 is a great aircraft, but aircraft, like ships, are designed for a purpose.

    SU-57 is faster than the F-35, carries more ordinance than the F-22, has a longer range and is far more manouverable than the F-35. The lack of comparison with the F-22 is noticable but we will ignore that for the moment.
    With WW2 / Korean / Vietnam tactics a SU-57 would excel, it is more than a match for all 4th gen fighters and fighter-bombers and would probably have the edge over the F-35.

    However, the F-22 and F-35 are not designed to operate in that environment. They have fully integrated systems with all intelligence gathering assets including Hawkeye, AWACS and ground based systems. Command of the air space is much more important than individual aircraft performance and the stealth capabilities of the F-22 and F-35 give them a decided advantage.
    The idea that modern aircraft would be engaging in dogfights like in the Battle of Britain or Korea is laughable. Highly accurate BVR missiles and command-vectoring is what will determine any future air superiority and the SU-57 fails dismally in this regard.
    Only once air superiority has been achieved will the air-to-ground role become significant and this is where the F-35 comes into it's own. Even the F-22, with limited ground strike ability itself, does have the ability to act as an invisible on-site target designator for other aircraft making 4th gen delivery systems more effective.

    So the question remains, yes the SU-57 is a fantastic modern aircraft but what is it's role ? what has it been designed to achieve in the modern air battle space ?
