this ring is a health tracker???

I have been hearing about Oura Ring off and on for the last year or so, hearing about how it’s a “stylish and subtle” health tracker. As someone who hates how apple watches look visually, I knew I had to try it out.

  1. When you are doing reviews like this I would much prefer if you show more screenshots of what you are talking about on your phone. It helps us visualize what you are talking about

  2. I like my Samsung watch 4, but I also have experienced skin irritation with the silicone band ( they prescribed me clotrimazole for it). With certain out fits it does stand out a bit. I didn't consider a health tracking ring before. I wear rings everyday lol.

  4. I've wanted an oura ring for a long time. I have a galaxy watch and I've tried using it to track my sleep but the programming is faulty and doesn't read rem sleep right. I haven't gotten one though just cause the price point, non-serviceable battery, and subscription service. I want my sleep data but not that much

  5. Hey Amanda! I had never heard of the Aura ring but was really interested. I find wearables really interesting and always keep an eye out for new things. And I love the jewelry aspect. I actually wear and use an Amazon HALO. I really like it. It is a fabric bracelet and the app comes with articles, access to exercise videos (of all types), meditations, and information. It has a collaboration with the Mayo Clinic. It does some different but good sleep data things but I like how it has a LOT of different elements. It’s also fine in water, I did swim in it just to see if it was comfortable, get gross, etc. It was around $70 because I signed up for the “Beta” intro, I think it’s about $100 now and I think the app is $4/month. I like that it’s an Amazon product and the app offers a lot. I don’t remember but think I got 3 months free (not entirely sure) but think it’s worth the monthly fee. Just my two pennies, for whatever it’s worth

  6. I've had ADHD caused insomnia my whole life; I've noticed though that when the sunrise time starts changing, I wake up exactly when the light shifts. I had to blackout all light sources in my room, and run a white noise generator all night, to get a solid average of 6 hours a night (still takes me an hour + to get to sleep). Even with all of that though. I have the same issues with intermittent insomnia. Unless I religiously stick to a bedtime and bed routine, and exercise during the day, my brain says "fuck you, sleep is for the WEAK!"

  7. The Space Force is rumored to partner with the Oura ring to track their enlisted force's members activity and to see if they're taking their individual health seriously. I have only seen one video on it so don't quote me on it.

  8. A mention on why the sensors glow green or red: that's just the device measuring your heartrate. It doesn't constantly measure your HR, it flashes the light every X minutes to get a reading.

  9. If you're a minimalist with a comfortable subscription service budget maybe.
Me though, if I'm buying a thing that needs an ap to function completely the ap better be free, so no thanks.
My $100 fitbit + free ap works just fine. If Oura wanted to make their ap free and maybe slice off a potential feature or two for a "premium paid membership" thing like fitbit does that'd be reasonable I suppose.
I've been wearing my fitbit for almost 4 years straight and have come to appreciate a telling-time watch on my wrist, so a $500 ring and $6 monthly ap subscription is the opposite of appealing.

  10. I think it’s really stupid that you have to pay for the app monthly after you dropped that much money on it. That’s crazy to me. I paid a crap ton for my Apple Watch, but I get free updates and it links to my phone and everything. I have sensitive skin and the silicone band works for me. I wash my whole Apple Watch sometimes when I wash my hands. I sanitize it a lot too.

  11. so happy you made this video! I used the black heritage 2nd gen oura ring for a long time. It was about $300 iirc and didn’t have a subscription model yet. I found that a justifiable price at the time but now I can’t imagine paying the increased price WITH the subscription model. the older gens only tracked sleep but I think the newer gen has 24/7 tracking which is good! I don’t wear my ring anymore mostly bc I realized I wasn’t checking the data anymore and started wearing other prettier rings more.

  12. My FitBit silicone bands also irritate my skin. I got the sport band with the breathing holes and it's better. I wanted all the information you wanted out of a fitness/wellness tracker so I got the Charge 5 fitbit only to find out that some of the more advanced features don't work in my region. I love the steps, heart rate and sleep tracker…it's surprisingly accurate. But I wish I could access the temp features though.

  13. I just use the same Fitbit I’ve had for five years now. It covers the basics I need and I have a Van Gogh fabric/elastic band on it. It’s also subtler than the Apple Watch.

  14. Subscription costs are a win for the company, products have evolved to generate steady return to corp. I'm sure they sell that sweet sweet user data for a pretty penny too!
Cool hardware concept though, needs refinement.
Perfect wedding band for the controlling partner!
