Here we are again, folks, back for the 3rd and final time. It has been an epic journey on this overgrown yard cleanup, and the finale may be the best episode yet. This one has everything from mowing, pruning, trimming, rubbish removal and I even threw in some power washing at the end. The owner actually told me that the fruit trees, that were still in their original pots, hadn’t really been touched in 20 years! And by looking at this jungle, it could possibly be true. Now, I know some of you are going to think I killed the fruit tree, but it needed a hard prune. It won’t kill the tree, and it will be much nicer after a season or two. Anyway, let’s get stuck in a get it repaired for this homeowner in need. I spent around 13 hours on this back section, which included 4 trips to the landfill. Generally, it takes around an hour for a roundtrip trip to the landfill and back.

FAQ’s:

Q: Where are you located?
A: We are from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘🦘🦘.

Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 4 years on the job.

Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: We use mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.

Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs!

Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin!

Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.

Q: Why don’t you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!

Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it’s because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn’t matter that much if they are outdoors. To me though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 – 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️

Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee!
A: I’m not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working! All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved!

Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.

Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That’s the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!

Q: Why don’t you have help?
A: I’ve had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.

Q: Why don’t you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
1. Currently, I don’t do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k on a good ride on mower.
2. I don’t have anywhere to store it.
3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can’t actually get a ride-on in there.
4. I don’t have the right trailer for a ride on, considering we always take the green waste away.
5. I will get one as soon as all of the above are solved.

Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick!

Q: What type of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.

    GRACIAS👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

  3. Couple of observations:

    Not sure how you can leave that much vegetation around your air conditioning unit. Not only does it need airflow to properly work, but if you need to have the system serviced or repaired, a technician could never get to the unit;

Also, what’s with fence posts in Aussie land made of steel/aluminum? In the U.S., we typically use pressure treated 4”x4” posts.

  4. Good to have you back. Glad the owners let you return after the other two jobs you did for them. They recognize good work when they see it! Thanks for fixing that deck step, gate and pressure washing. And the heat pump is happy to have some fresh air, too. Is that the same special green truck you had before, or a new one? Guess it is winter down there now as it is in the high 90's every day here in Georgia, USA.

  6. Fantastic work, George. Of all the landscaping makeover vids i watch from people both in the states at in Aussie land you are the most complete. Not only take care of the lawn, bushes and trees, but rubbish and fixing fences and steps while power washing. No one dies it better.

  7. I always imagine the conversation between the homeowners after their yard has been transformed: “Wow! This yard never looked this great!” “Thanks a lot! When I could do that kind of work, it always looked this nice.” “Oh, you did a nice job, dear, but not quite like this.” “The next time we eat at your sister’s, I’m going to tell her that “I never tasted a meal this good!” Now they aren’t speaking.

  8. That was a lot of work clearing out the overgrown shrubs and trees. You gave them a clean slate with the yard and a newer looking deck. Awesome job George on the entire project!

  9. Bravo from Southcentral Pennsylvania USA! You were the first landscaper/lawn maintenance channel I watched during COVID. This has to be my favorite to date because of the huge transformation and all of the kind and generous extras you did. Great job!

  10. Epic again, George. I love the way you tackle jobs systematically. Breaking the WTH into doable chunks. A method anyone with MH issues can benefit from if they get easily overwhelmed by something that looks too big to handle. Good to see business picking up again after you decided to come back.
