  1. Skogsrå (the Mistress of the Forest). It appears in the form of a small, beautiful woman with a seemingly friendly temperament. She appears like a woman from the front but seen from behind she often has a tail and a hollow back or skin like tree bark.
Those who are enticed into following her into the forest are never seen again. It was said that any human man who has intercourse with the Skogsrå becomes an introvert, as his soul has remained with her. If the seduced man is a hunter, he may be rewarded with good luck in the hunt, but should he be unfaithful to the Skogsrå, he will be punished with numerous accidents. He may put an end to a stormy night caused by her vengeance by firing a shot against her.

  2. 13:05 This is a Hulder (or Huldra, since it is a female) – a forest creature that is known to seduce men. Once they landed themselves a spouse they were very jealous of them, and Hulders would kill their partners if they were ever unfaithful. Hulder are often depicted as having animalistic limbs and tail – usually cow or fox – and a hollowed-out bark tree back. Hulder belong to the group of creatures called Rå, which translates to 'wardens' or 'keepers' and were more specifically referred to as Skogsrå – 'forest wardens' or 'forest keepers' – and were known to be good fortune for charcoal burners. Hulders would mind the charcoal kilns while the burners rested and would warn them if something went wrong. In exchange the burners would leave food and offerings out for them. Hulder were known to be very strong – much stronger than a man – so it was usually best to be kind to them since they weren't considered evil creatures.

The name Hulder literally means to 'cover' or 'hide'. They did not like humans looking at their non-human features as it brought them shame. Very often they would dress up to look like normal people because of this. Trying to catch a Hulder out for being not human by looking for animal feet, or a tail, or worse – their back – would make them very angry. There were male hulder as well, called huldrakall, though I remember reading a lot less about them. I do not know why the Huldra in this game is evil though… from my memory Hulder were not antagonistic towards children.

  3. What the woman was is a "Skogsrået" also more commonly known as a "Skogsfru" (the Mistress of the Forest). What is most interesting is in how in different parts of Sweden is how they're seen and what they do.

  4. That's a huldra (goes by several other names). Defining features are a cow or other animal tail and hole in a back that either appears to be a gaping hollow into their chest cavity or as if their insides are a busted open log with occasional variations that there's a glamour that prevents you from noticing either unless you're exactly behind them. They're generally considered either trollkin and/or nature spirits and associated with raising cattle. Portrayals of them vary WILDLY from succubus-like to looking to take husbands to simple friendly if not outright helpful forest dwellers. Males are called huldrekall and are quite different in appearance, generally appearing outright ugly and monstrous, though in some variations they can put on glamours to appear beautiful or the huldra's beauty is itself a glamour.

Hands down one of my favorite mythological creatures. And my favorite trolls ahead of even Moomins.

  5. I dare you to play Leaden Sky. It's demo now, but it's really good game. If be short, then it's 2D horror shooter with good story and post apocalyptic atmosphere. It won't take more than 1-2 videos
