This Madman Workshop Took Some Work! Occupy Mars S2 Ep.2

MADMAN Difficulty is no joke! I just barely scrape by to build my workshop today.
Survive and colonize Mars in a highly technical, open-world sandbox game. Build and upgrade your base, discover new regions, conduct mining operations, retrieve water, generate oxygen, grow crops, and fix broken parts.

  1. when you get to an abandoned base, build a solar panel, and connect the atv. then the atv can charge while you work, so you have more power for the return
you can eat all foods raw, NO mre processor required, but the food will decay quickly

  2. @1:40 in the starter pod its a bad idea seen it happen cause if you drop too many items at once they collide to each other while falling and can glitch thru the floor and you cant grind down the starter pod, seen it in the workshop too when dropping too many in one go but at least the building is grindable so i usually drop no more than 2-3 at a time to let the items settle on the floor first
@7:55 cause the storage is full so it doesnt work need at least one slot open also the printer also has the output to use as storage
@24:55 well ext isnt really needed until you have the rover and rather have that extra 2 water for plants and yes you can grow plants without the scrubber
my first buildings inside are the incubator and the hydroponics and prioritized getting food but even that takes awhile as it needs about 12 panels minimum to charge the batteries to keep them growing all night which also uses 5.60 water when fully planted. I start with 8 panels just dedicated to the workshop, couple battery upgrades and just a few seeds as i dont have the well powered yet.
hard mode in material tech you want to go to the bottom route for the survival capsule to allow exploring further out
I usually sleep till 7 and have that extra hour to refill suit, will take some damage but not enough to kill by 8 and will heal passively over time
also good to pick up the random stones spawn on the ground as those are infinite which adds up, by day 10 i picked up about 45 calcium better than none
@33:40 you prioritize on one water line being too long and building the workshop near it, would been better to have to build on an open field for solar panels instead for all the wires
@37:55 hehe wrong button yet you always press tab when you can easily press B when building
@42:05 spent all that time grinding the cans and forgot to save first

  3. 15:54 maybe they get blown away on a direct strike by a dust devil (like a building gets damaged by direct strike)? either way, using an abandoned building as a warehouse to store stuff does sound like what a stranded astronaut would do.

  4. The tech tree is a bit confusing, you wanted to get something, I this it was the tool upgrades but you need the workbench unlocked to do that, it was under electricity. at the bottom of the tree. I think they should make it more obvious where you need to unlock something vs where you need to find a blueprint for something.

  5. Tough, tough journey! Can you build the level one scanner? I think the time saving benefit of guessing which rocks are which would outweigh the build cost. Time seems to be the biggest battle right now. An on hard mode I expect more storms to slow you down further. You’ve been lucky (or skilled?) with the rock choices so far but it won’t always be so.

  6. Nice episode, please remember – if you have few other seeds (other than potatoes) FIRST make enough seeds (more than some 4-6) only after that start planting some of them for food… if you eat few of them first, you have like 1-2 seeds and it will take forever until they multiply enough (several generations = several days).
For oxygen, CO2 scrubber is way more efficient than well extension (Sabator) you only need those extensions when you start filling your rover or jetpack… until then its waste, and decreases water production. You shall not need pump soon, once you have two buildings, you can connect second well to second building, its easier…
