This is the Difference of Gaussians

In the realm of image based edge detection, aesthetically pleasing edges are hard to come by. But, what if we could get stylized edge lines by just blurring our image twice?

  2. Randomly changing cross hatching direction in real time every frame (or every few frames) might give you an animated look, like its being redrawn or something

  3. Okay, gaussians are cool, but what if you took the difference of two different blurs? I was playing around with gaussian – some kind of edge-sensitive blur in gimp, and it gave some results, but I don't have much experience with this kind of stuff. To me, the biggest idea would be getting a filter with a minimum of computation. Those path integrals sound pretty expensive, I bet you could get as good or better than your dogs with something lighter.

  4. What if you made the cross hatching lines thicker with the colored pencil mode?
Would that look kinda like a marker drawing? Then what if you put the black crosshatching on top of that again?
Would that look like an inked and markered in image? Thats what some comic books do for their art.
