This is one of DreamWorks most underrated movie.. overshadowed by Shrek.

ALSO. Granted it was a kids movie but kids don't pay attention to that stuff. Kids are just innocent so some of the adult stuff would fly over their head.
11:00 Louisianai purchase was $15 million at the time (or $323 million is todays USD).
Firstly, while it goes without saying, it should still be said; Chel’s fanbase grew exponentially from this movie, and no one can convince me otherwise.
Secondly, this is one of the movies people think of when discussing how much they miss Dreamworks’ 2D animated movies, regardless of the problems some of them may have like with Sinbad. That’s not to downplay on their 3D films, not at all. I’ll always love the original trilogies of How to Train Your Dragon, Madagascar, and Kung Fu Panda (I’m a bit cautious with Kung Fu Panda 4). And this isn’t ignoring their 2D output in their Television Animation subsidiary either, I really enjoy She-Ra and Kipo. However, like with Disney, there’s definitely something about 3D animated movies that seemed easier to produce compared to 2D movies, likely not having to draw and clean each frame for most. I’m not against the 3D movies at all, but I wouldn’t mind mixing the pot with both mediums.

Rosie Perez could have played Chel in real life back in the day
So a friend told me this… that scene with the volcano it shows that the Gods were reincarnated, but not humans the gods actually reincarnated into animals like the Armadillo… because when it chase’s the butterfly and has a hard time doing it the volcano starts to erupt but when Tulio shouts and scares him the volcano stops immediately
It also shows how that the Armadillo is able to move so swiftly and do all those tricks in the ball game

2000 wasn't really the year for animated feature films. This, Emperor's New Groove, Dinosaur, and Titan, A.E. didn't do that great at the box office, the latter flopping so badly Fox fired Don Bluth and shut down its animation studio for good.

My heart hurts seeing Spirit isn't included in the dreamworks 2D list. It's one of THE most underrated animated movies of all time.
I'm glad you're watching this soon after The Lion King, because the creators definitely went out of their way to allude to it in several ways 😀 As a kid I only noticed it with the waterfall silhouette walking-on-a-log moment, but the hints are all over the place.

Well…….. let's not forget that this is NOT a Disney movie so maaayyybeeee because it's not Disney material, they can squeeze as much "Spice" in there as possible. But it's still the best movie regardless. I'd watch this movie whenever I wanna see some spice and comedy 😁

This is definitely not a kids’ movie. In fact, it was originally supposed to be a lot more mature than it wound up being; it was going to be darker, Chel’s outfit was going to be a lot more revealing, and her love scenes with Tulio were going to be a lot steamier.

tbh, i don’t mind innuendos in kids movies much. i know for a fact that me and anyone else who watched this as a kid didn’t pick up on anything or any of the other many many innuendos in kids movies. it’s not in your face so the kids aren’t gonna understand it until they’re adults and the adults have some “grown” humor for them. many kids movies, epically from around when this came out, would do it. it’s really not that big of a deal if it’s implied. it doesn’t make me consider it less of a kid movie (even though i have problems with people saying animated movies are only for kids lol but that’s a whole other discussion)

All animated movies have the same stigma. "IT'S FOR KIDS IT CAN'T BE THAT GOOD RIGHT!?" It's not like Hollywood would lump all animation into a genre instead of it being considered a medium right? Ugh. Maybe someday it'll get proper respect. Spiderverse proved people actually will still pay attention to animated movies as more than stuff that's "Just for kids."
