For those of you who reside outside the U.S. and are unaware, latinos bring their disregard of animals to the States from mexico. Every latino neighborhood has a number of stray animals as latinos don't take care of their animals. You don't have to drive down to mexico, just drive to any latino neighborhood.

My guess is he was stung or bitten by something. Maybe a scorpion or a spider. Left unchecked he might have swollen to the point of having difficulty breathing so I think you got him to the vet just in time. Thanks for saving them and I do hope they find a home together.
