This Cunard Regular Puts Their Brand-New Ship To The Test

I believe I can bring a unique take on Cunard’s new Queen Anne as I’ve been on 23 Cunard cruises and spent 210 nights across all their fleet, including most recently 14 nights on board Queen Anne, which gave me ample time to fully test out their latest cruise ship. I was keen to discover if, as some believe, Cunard is trying to chase people like me away from Cunard with their new ship and replace me with new and younger cruisers, or whether they’re just trying to offer another ship for me as a regular Cunard cruiser to experience.

  1. Although I'm disappointed there are no specific solo staterooms, I'm intrigued enough to give Anne a go. Brights Lights Society looks great fun, and looked almost Virgin-esque. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

  2. I have always believed that, while a cruise line should have it's brand image and service going across the entire fleet, EVERY ship should have its own design flavor. Even in the same class ship, why not have one Bohemian, one Scandinavian, one industrial, heck one like Star Trek, one in Viking style. Right now, I get confused between ships because they all look alike. I used to like exploring every floor of every ship; now I know exactly what I will find.

  3. Brilliant review of Queen Anne. I was feeling rather underwhelmed after watching a few other videos but I feel you've explained it very well when you've likened Cunard to chartering a new ship whilst still running the Cunard schedule. I'm reassured and think I'm going to be ok when I embark in August for the Norwegian Fjords. I think Queen Victoria will always be my favourite ship.

  4. I saw another YouTube review which was less than complementary about the speciality restaurants and I think the fact you cancelled going to the rest of them was a wise choice

  5. I read through quite a few comments about Cunard in general and people have to get some facts straight:
First, Carnival bought Cunard 25+ years ago! A generation! Carnival then plowed a ton of money to build the Queen Mary 2 to keep the only ocean liner at sea, and then built the very traditional Queen Victoria and Elizabeth cruise ships. Many hated all three ships when introduced and now all three are beloved. Bottom line is Carnival saved Cunard.
Second, Cunard’s “class” system is not as over the top as suite passengers receive in MSC, Celebrity, or Norwegian. In fact, Gary has a recent excellent video showing how such a small part of the Cunard ships are taken up by Grills passengers vs other lines. And no Grills passenger is getting walked to the front of the theater line, probably booed and hissed by the others, as is on MSC. Also, there is no “Fourth Class”; that’s clickbait by other YouTubers.

Not sure what to make of QA, but look how different QE2 was when it was introduced in the late 1960’s compared to the traditional liners it replaced; it was like a hippie ocean liner. QE2 also is beloved ship.
History shows that QA will be a bigger hit than many are thinking now.

  6. My image of Cunard is that of luxury trans-atlantic ocean liners. Since carnoval has plenty of brands, it is interesting that they are extending Cunard to include "cruising" on a modern "vanilla" ship that just includes some of the true Cunard image. Curious to see how their marleting manages to keep the 2 different Cunards different.

  7. Gary, I always enjoy your videos. I understand loyalty to a brand, as I am loyal to Holland America. I’ve sailed on several other lines, but HAL suits me to a ‘T’. I do NOT want to “hit the Lido Deck for the limbo contest” (Carnival), the nickel and dime-ing common on Royal Caribbean, etc.
This new Cunard ship doesn’t look luxurious, or inviting. The food doesn’t look special either. I love getting a full tea in the library of the HAL ships, their enrichment presentations, cooking classes, and many great music venues.

I think the Cunard might be ok for a transatlantic voyage, but then again, for the difference in cost, I’d rather stay a HAL gal!

  8. We travelled on Queen Elizabeth and found crew service incredibly slow. The crew were rude, served with an attitude, didnt go out of their way to make you feel welcome and gave the impresion they did not want to be there and that they didn't want passengers to be there either. Seem sum reviews that since carnaval bought cunard, they have prioritized money over service to cunards detriment. We treat cunard as a novelty cruise now, rather than a cruise line you would choose to spend your holidays on. Celebrity or royal Caribbean give much better service, would chose them over cunard any day. Cunard is set firmly for the 70+ crowd, if you are younger than 70, dont sail on cunard.

  9. Hi if you take a cruise excursion from a cruise ship on a bus do you have to sit in the same seats every time you get on and off the bus at each stop even if their are no personal belongings on the seats

  10. Let's face it. They are hedging their bets. They know most of us who cruise Cunard are of a certain age, or above a certain age. So they need to look to the future and adapt/attract the next 'generation' of cruisers who are used to the less formal/traditional type of cruise. The new ship looks like a perfect mix of the old with the new.

  11. So singles aren't welcome? I think Cunard might have incorporated at least a few single cabins; after all, there must be many widows/widowers and other singles who would like to experience Queen Anne.

  12. Hi Gary, thanks a lot for your reviews.

4 fast questions if you can help out:

1- Does it still use the normal ID card to purchase things on board and use on the cabin access?

2 – Do they keep that daily “cinema movie” on theatre?

3 – Do they use the new external movie screen on the pool for movie cinema?

4 – Is it possible to have access to one daily program?

Thanks for your amazing channel 🙂

  14. Every so often I binge watch this gentleman's videos on cruising.
Not exactly unusual, except that I don't take cruises and actually, after watching these videos, I'm not sure I want to.
But for some reason, I find his videos interesting and his voice somehow calming.
