…This is another one of those cinematics that stuck with me for years and years. I’m so glad to finally be able to gush about this in full. And as much as I loved The Sonic 2 Movie. I don’t think anything will ever beat Sonic’s magnum opus right here. But I’m excited for any attempt that tries..

  1. The fact that a big budget Hollywood sonic flick couldn't even come close to this intro, more than a decade later. Really shows just how special Unleashed was.

  3. 18:42 in one of there original versions of this cutscene or maybe it's still there idk but when sonic is being zapped by the electricity they made it so you can see his skeleton flashing for a brief second.

  4. I forgot how good this cutscene was! I watched gameplays of the game and I remember watching it thinking of nothing. But a deep analysis makes it more amazing. Since this game was around 2008

  5. I was absolutely mesmerized when I saw this cutscene back when I was a kid. Although unleashed isnt the perfect game, its still one of my favorites because of the amount of love and effort put into the graphics, sound design, atmosphere, art, and music. The most gorgeous 3d sonic game to date.

  6. Honestly, I don't think that Paramount is allowing the Sonic Team for these moves to go as far as they could. To many times it seems like they are making a cheap kids movie, instead of really letting the character shine as much as he could. Of course, that's probably because there is a drama thing to consider and the video game ratings don't always jive with the movie and TV ratings so, I can let that pass. That being said, the movies are still very good, and I hope they keep it up.

  7. Don't think you mentioned, but I saw it pointed out before that when Eggman is controlling his mech, he does it through hand motions. You see him wave his arms (with a wide grin, I think), and that activates the missile launchers. When he swaps from minigun to rocket-grappler hand, you see him wind up his arm and flex his fingers. That victorious fist you mentioned is him making his mech hold Sonic in place.

  8. This cutscene is actually immaculate. It has amazing graphics and animation, great voicework, does a fantastic job at establishing the story and characters for both new and returning Sonic fans, and has quite honestly never been topped in the series

  9. Tbh this cutscene from 2008 is much…MUCH better than any "cartoon-ish" cutscene I have seen in this couple of years- (not just sonic cutscenes)

  10. Sonic Unleashed was my favorite game when I was younger- I don't remember much of it, but I do remember the cutscene at the beginning when I first saw my brother playing the game (it was his originally since he was obsessed with Sonic too at the time) and I was absolutely fascinated with it.
Sonic was always a big part of my childhood and this video brought up such big nostalgia- I wanna find this game and play it again now

  11. Oh yeah seeing this cut scene as a kid blew me away back then when I was watching it with my cousin (he had gotten the game when it came out). It was amazing. Seeing it again now really reminds me of how good it was.

  12. Sonic unleashed was the reason i got into sonic in the first place <3 after seeing the cutscenes and gameplay of it i fell in love 🙂 that was all the way back in 2016!! even tho my dad was really into sonic in his teen years, he was only into the classic games, and never played games like sonic adventure, onwards… so i never really got into the modern sonic games until 2016 <3

  13. One thing that I don't think most folks tend to bring this up is how this opening intro takes place at the FINAL BOSS level.
It literally is the endgame of Sonic's journey here.

So many things pretty much goes to show just that: Sonic is in space for starters, the entire fight just feels like Sonic's final level, Eggman taking him on headstrong with everything he's got, Sonic having all the Chaos Emeralds at his disposal, so on and so forth.

Not only that, but it's also a final boss level where Sonic actually LOSES and Eggman reigns victorious for once in his life.
Sonic's loss also just feels so effing genuine, too.

No other Sonic game can ever come close to having this bitter tasteful feel of defeat and losing the battle.

The disclosure of this cutscene starts with the end of one adventure, and then it ends with the start of a new one.
A wonderful way to kick a Sonic game off, man!
