Cruising Yacht Club of Australia Vice Commodore David Jacobs has said a crew member onboard the yacht Porco Rosso was swept more than a kilometre overboard during the Sydney Hobart Yacht Race.
The crew member was safely retrieved.
This comes amid the tragic news of two people on two separate vessels dying during the yacht race.

Will the Commodore be held accountable for not stopping the race if there's a fourth victim..?
Maybe if it's one of his own…
Sad freak accident.
Would be nice to cancel the race out of respect of the deaths.
Mostly white. Mostly wealthy.
Australia could be amazing if its people were not so eager to ban all things possibly dangerous.
cancel this stupid race
No safety tether?
Guess safety isnt a big thing in the yachtie crowd…but as taxpayers foot the bill when things go sour maybe they should pull finger and get safe.
Let the adventure spirit have it's freedom. Next some will want to stop hiking thru national parks cause the copper is used to rescue some one.
I never cared for that race. I am sorry to hear 2 sailors lost their life.
this Is not newsworthy
It took over a Kilometer to activate their beacon?
Weird.
RIP to the sailors – please Nanny state Wokies stay out of my sport and stick to your knitting.
Will this tragedy make house prices go up?
