  1. Something that some cruisers may feel is a negative about the new ships is that they feel more like a land vacation unless like a cruise. They have too many land-based activities and a lot of them come with extra charges.

  2. Hey Matt, it’s been a while since I’ve made a comment but this video you have done was very interesting and I like that idea of newer ships and bells and whistles. I wonder how the newer ships cabins for disabled travelers are especially visually impaired. Would you know this thanks for the video.

  3. I prefer newer ships but my general rule is the newer and bigger the ship the longer the cruise has to be. I've done 7+ days on smaller ships and was bored to death – but they were perfect for 3-4. And a cruise on Quantum or Oasis Class feels like a waste of money for a short cruise because you hardly get to see everything. But for a 7+ day cruise there's enough time. I even did a 14 day cruise on Wonder, their first Transatlantic, and was still finding new things every day.

  4. It's always cool to see what new "Bells and Whistles" there is on a brand new ship. Some of the old ones have their charm as well. For one, the smaller older ones are able to go to places these big new ones can't. Like some of the Glaciers up in Alaska, or Key West in the Caribbean.

  5. New ships , hate cruising on old rust buckets , it’s just the nature of old ships, esp when they will not go through another refresh with the company

  6. Someday I will go on something newer than the freedom class. I don't care what ship im on as long a it is royal Caribbean and i got a great deal on the cruise fare. Each ship is fun and unique.

  7. It's not on Royal Caribbean, but on MSC. We recently went on one of their most recent ships (Seashore, 2021) and soon we'll be cruising on an older one (Fantasia, 2008, refurbished in 2018). I must say I'm quite curious on how it will affect (more or less) our experience on board.

  8. Got a great deal on connecting Grand Suites on an older ship next year! My approach is to build up C&A points more quickly, while spending less (will get double on those suites). Then I can use those to hopefully get some discounts, on board credits, etc on the newer ones! 😉

  9. We love travel as a whole and not just cruising and we are middle class folks, so we only go every three years or so. I write this to provide context. For further context, our first cruise was on Majesty for our honeymoon and we have great memories.
Based on our experiences we slightly prefer the "older" ships. First of all we want to feel like we are on a ship and not at a large land resort. We also like the "homier" feel of a smaller ship. Although we did try the specialty restaurants on one cruise, we returned to primarily the MDR on our most recent one because we like building relationships with the staff and did not find the for pay ones to be superior enough to miss out on those relationships or pay the price. Without fail within a few meals, the staff always learns our preferences. You know, things like what kind of bread/roll we like best and what and when we want hot beverages. As we talk we learn about their lives and they do ours as well. Although I did not ask for it and only mentioned in passing that our latest cruise was an anniversary one, on the night of it the staff in the MDR brought us a special cake and sang us a song. That is something we will remember. We remember the names of our servers and have pictures of them as well, so the older ships work fine for that. I will say that although we have enjoyed almost all the entertainment on all ships, we did appreciate what could be presented in a space like 270.
As long as Royal has itineraries we desire–which is our first priority when we search–we will go on whatever ship is doing that itinerary, but IF given a choice we would choose Vision (Rhapsody is still our all-time favorite ship), Voyager, Radiance, or Freedom over Oasis, Quantum, or Icon
