  1. Come to Australia… we are constantly talking about replacing the current Australian flag with something more modern and doesn't have the union jack in the corner of the flag.

  2. Just before my eighteenth birthday the legal drinking age in Georgia was raised to 21. I went to a night club in the middle of no-where with older friends because the owner wouldn't deny me.

  3. Top 10…. I'll settle for top ten. It's just being honest. See Greg Giraldo's bit about America being #1. The majority of Americans haven't ventured outside of the continent. So, there's not much of a comparative factor for most. So, yeah, America (as a whole) is better than Arkansas.

  4. I kinda wish I could put out an international psa that says the list price is different because not everyone pays the same tax. Charities and people on assistance, businesses and so on pay different to even no tax.

  5. That's totally a thing. in my late teens we would frequently run out of alcohol and realize it was 8:15. It was a half hour drive and we had a couple of 21+ in our crew. The packies in the other state were open 'til 10(22), ours closed at 8(20).

  6. I live in NH and worked retail for 10 years more or less and in the malls here during the summer literal bus loads of people from every surrounding state and Canada came to the malls here to buy stuff with no taxes and go home after.

  7. You can drive at 14 (really 15 but you can start the process around 14) in America with what is known as a hardship license basically that is that due to some sort of need that your family has where the legal driver(s)in the home are unable to meet the needs of the house like grocery shopping or picking up younger siblings from school so they need another driver in the home. For this purpose the state might allow a 14-15 year old to get their license early to meet the need. Usually these needs include things like the driver or drivers are medically unable to drive and there is no one else in the home or the driver(s) work long hours or usually work shifts that keep them from being home to take kids to drs visits or to and from school or whatever the need may be.

Also yes fizzy lemonade here in the states would be considered lemon soda usually when you refer to lemonade in the US it is just lemon juice water and a crap ton of sugar (sometimes other fruits like strawberry are added as well but that is just based on the place bad person)

  8. I can totally relate to your memories of “singing” during assembly in the UK.

Silently waiting until the chorus before belting out “OH COME LET US ADORE HIM” as loud as possible! Lol

  9. We do have separation of Church and State Simon. The British Constitution rests upon a triumverate of Crown, Church and State. Separate. Distinct. Stable. Czech your history, fact boi!

  10. My son is autistic and from about 5 to 9 was obsessed with the American flag. We must have looked like super patriotic nut jobs had at least 50 in all sizes (mostly inside the house) and had to stop at all the flag poles to look up and watch them.

  11. It might depend on the state, but I've grown up with the supposed knowledge that you can drink at home in the states as long as your parent gave it to you basically. One of the problems with 18yr olds being able to buy alcohol is just they'd buy it and give it to all their high school friends. Which could be argued is bad, but could also be argued that it's happening anyway just like cigs. But then, the attitude towards alcohol here in the states contributes heavily to alcohol abuse vs some other countries where it's so normalized that alcohol related problems are a lot lower.

  12. The state I live in allows you to drive unsupervised at 14 on planned routes. These are for kids that have sports practices or parents that work. They can typically only go from home to school or whatever sports field they are using.

  13. Unfortunately in the US, the flag has been co-opted by the radical right and trumpers. It is still used in school for the Pledge of Allegiance but historically, it was usually only put up on houses for Veteran's day and Memorial Day.

  14. Yeah, waving the national flag around in Australia makes you look like a nationalist/alt right/wanker too.

Edit: Yeah, I had to recite the lord's prayer at assembly every morning in the first couple of years of primary school. Being an atheist from an atheist family, I wasn't really sure what it was about & just mumbled along down the back. But I can still recite most of it if someone else starts me off.
