  1. The ending was a waste. You don't use your biggest ship, as all of the terran capital ships, and maybe some smaller ships, had resonators. Also, an abandon ship would have been done for non-essentials, taking the ship down to skeleton levels, or below.
    While it could be possible that overloading the system would only destroy ships outside of a certain radius, this implies that the energies are emitted externally. So yes the ship would likely end up dead in space, and operating on emergency power/life support. Yes, there was a risk that a conduit for the energy would fail and vent internally, but going by historical failures, it's either going to be negligible or catastrophic.
    The two weren't dead at the end, while radiation might be slowly killing them, it's still possible that a rescue crew might be able to get to them and save them.
