These Titanic submarine 'flaws' may be behind disaster



On 22 June the wreckage of the Titan submarine was found on the sea bed 500 yards from the Titanic. Experts say the submarine suffered a catastrophic implosion and the five passengers onboard died. It was steered by Playstation controller, used components bought from Camping World and didn’t have safety certification. But five missing Titanic tourists paid to descend 12,500ft in the Titan submarine. Now they have vanished without a trace, and questions are being asked why experts who raised safety concerns about the OceanGate vessel were apparently ignored. One of the engineers was so concerned he quit the project, one man was said to have refused to ride the sub after seeing how it was built, and one man who did described his voyage to a newspaper as β€˜suicide’. These are all the potential concerns that could have led to disaster.

  1. We now know, sadly, that the Mother of the 19 year old was on the Surface ship and swapped places with her son because he was so keen to go (she was interviewed by the BBC this morning). Can Ocean Gate say with honesty that she and her son really fully understood the risks and that these had been properly, fully and honestly explained. I think not and for this Ocean Gate must be held accountable.

The 1st TV Correspondent to report from the titanic in the year of 2000 when the submersible he, his diving buddy and the operator got caught at the bottom of the ocean in underwater currents that pushed them between one of the gigantic propellers and the titanic body. The Former ABC News Science Editor is Dr. Michael Guillen and his experience happened in September of 2000 and he was a newlywed at the time, having just been married in September of 2000.

  4. Great vessel able to resist internal pressure in excess of 400 bar ! Wait I am told it will be external pressure ?? S…t ! How can fiber spun around a tube increase its resistance to crushing ? The epoxy glue ? Not serious ! Plus different materials with different expansion coef… Fatigue, cracks during pressure, temp cycle …Catastrophic failure soon or later. Plus many other errors I bet. Shame on these engineers. Woke ?

  5. Titanium's' strength is critically dependent on a scratch-free surface. Apparently, it was stored in an outdoor carpark, exposed to the elements. These heating cycles may have caused abrasion with the carbon fiber layer.

Components bought from camping world, rusted scaffolding (i mean really Mail, someone even corrected you IN this 'report' – and what in the actual @$@$ do you think ballast is?), "a previous passenger described that to remove the ballast….." – completely incorrect – that is not what they said; the Mail's remarks about the controller – well this reporter couldn't even fact check that on WIKIPEDIA ( note to the mail, you are aware that xbox controllers are used on some US nuclear submarines, aren't you? -you can even see them on videos of tours on youtube – obviously not.
    The situation was bad enough, especially Rush's attitude, without having to lie about aspects of it – but Mail, your reporting…. is ridiculous.

  7. Certification doesn't mean a whole lot in my book. I've known of plenty of "certified" people and or things that have failed. No certification takes the place of experience. That being said, there would be no way I would have gone on this trip, even if I could afford it. Sad that it happened, but curiosity can be rewarding or deadly, rarely both.

  8. Everyone who used the Titan knew the risks and signed the waver. The CEO was not even hiding his mad love for innovation over people's safety. Not sure why people are complaining about it now.

  9. nothing should go in some dangerous place without a safety certificate from expert. come on if it is the CEO by himself in deep sea ,fine. but taking customer this is another game. just imagine airplane airbus or boeing take 300 passenger with as plane without safety certificat!!
