There's a Difference Between Living and Breathing | NWT Sheep & Caribou Day-by-Day (EP.1)

Randy Newberg and Andy St. John embark on a bucket-list adventure to the rugged Northwest Territories in pursuit of Dall sheep and caribou. Andy, who won this hunt of a lifetime in a raffle, teams up with Randy to navigate the challenges of this remote wilderness. Along the way, Randy reflects on words of wisdom from his Uncle Elton that shape their approach to the hunt.

The duo arrives at camp, soaks in the breathtaking landscape, and prepares for the days ahead. As they set out to find a Dall ram, they experience the unique camaraderie and humbling moments that come with such an incredible hunt.

  1. Sorry, my comment is completly off topic. Would you do a video about the threat of privatization of public lands. I know you have addressed this before but with the renewed efforts, especially in your home state I would like to hear your thoughts.

  2. You're a lucky man, Randy! I spent many years flying into and working in Norman Wells, the surrounding Sahtu (Indigenous) communities, and further north, the Gwich'in and Inuvialuit communities in the Mackenzie Delta and Beaufort Region with my negotiations teams, negotiating various self-government agreements (modern Treaties) as the lead negotiator on behalf of the Government of Canada, with those groups and with the Government of the Northwest Territories. I've flown over some of that backcountry terrain in the Mackenzie mountains west of Norman Wells – it's breathtaking. I'm retiring at the end of this month after 32 years of combined federal public service and Canadian Forces service. Sure hope I get to go back up there again someday. I'd love to hunt caribou up there.

  3. WoW Randy, amazing stories and mini history class about the mountains in order to set the stage for an amazing show. Thanks for sharing the story of Uncle Elton Randy. Hunting and the Outdoors for sure provides another way of living and not just breathing. I mentioned before and I always will: You motivated me into trying hunting again and it became my therapy for my PTSD. I was in a bad place mentally but hunting and the outdoors saved my life. Finally, after 23 years of Army service and 8 deployments overseas, I retired from the Army last June. I'm grateful of any opportunities of going up in the mountains where I can recharge my batteries to continue with our Day-in-Day-out life. Thank you, Randy and crew, for these amazing videos, stories and motivation to keep hunting and living, NOT JUST BREATHING 💪👊🦌😎can't wait for the next EP

  4. Thanks for the little history lesson on the fur trade and Alexander Mackenzie! I teach my 7th grade social studies class about the Northwest Passage (or lack of) and the fur trade every year. I'll gladly be adding this little tidbit to my lesson this year. Best show ever!
