  1. I’m reading David McCullough’s "𝙼𝙾𝚁𝙽𝙸𝙽𝙶'𝚂 𝙾𝙽 𝙷𝙾𝚁𝚂𝙴𝙱𝙰𝙲𝙺" very long biography of Theodore Roosevelt (and his family, ancestors, etc.). This is decent as a short summary. I think it’s another case of historical presentism to judge all of Teddy Roosevelt’s actions and thoughts as horrific during his time. There are definitely some that are atrocious in any period of time. But, many were majority thoughts in that older generation unfortunately 😕

  2. In 1896 Garrett Hobart was McKinley's VP. Teddy Roosevelt wanted to be the 1900 VP candidate. Hobart refused to step aside then died in November 1899, age 55. TR and McKinley were elected November, 1900 and inaugurated March, 1901. McKinley was assassinated September, 1901 and TR became president. McKinley's campaign manager, Senator Mark Hanna, wanted to challenge TR in GOP presidential primaries in 1904. Hanna died February, 1904. TR is re-elected in November, 1904.

  3. TR was a "true" Conservative… despite his human faults, his conservation of our natural resources and natural wonders is unmatched in history. One can only wonder what he'd think of what conservatism has become…being climate change deniers, etc

  4. A picture was shown of TR and two other men. Two men who were very important to him his whole life, namely Wilmot Dow(l) and William Wingate Sewall (r). William Sewall was TR's Maine hunting guide in his youth as was Sewall's nephew, Dow. Both men were close to TR and at TR's request , both Maine men left their families and went out west to assist TR after his wife passed and actually built his house at Elkhorn Ranch. When TR became President, the whole Sewall Family from Maine was invited to his inauguration. Bill Sewall received an appointment to his cabinet. Wonderful book called Becoming Teddy Roosevelt, by Andrew Vietze…one of my favorite books. There is a place called Bible Point in Maine. It is called that because on his trips to Maine to the Sewall's he would abstain from all activities on Sunday except for reading his bible in solitude there at Bible Point.
