What is Their Finest Hour?
As the personal stories of the Second World War are fast fading from living memory, it is vital that these stories – and the wartime objects that often accompany them – are preserved for future generations. Their Finest Hour, a University of Oxford project launched in July 2022 and funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, aims to empower local communities to digitally preserve these stories and objects before they are lost to posterity.

Thank you as usual. I'm a bit late. World class. Sure appreciate all of your work. I owe you some great local beers. Thanks again from America.
This is so important. How many times have we all thought "I should have recorded my Old Boys' / Old Girls' stories"? They fizzle into myth if we don't. Well done.
Thank you Stuart and Woody. Just me, but I hope if we educate people about war, maybe we can stop the cycle? Came across this on Mastadon by Joanne Freeman who teaches at Yale. Please delete if it causes a food fight. "I have NO patience for people who claim that historians should be producing traditional scholarship and not addressing the public. Historians should be engaging with EVERY public. Talking about democracy. Teaching about democracy. Highlighting the gaslighting & correcting the whitewashing. If ever there was a time for historians to step up & engage with the public for the sake of American democracy, it's NOW."
It will be interesting to see what this may mean to future historians from the new materials that will be preserved from the process. Perhaps we may see some revision and new perspectives come out of this project. Best wishes for its success Dr. Lee.
A noble cause. Impressive and monumental undertaking; inspiring and motivating. Thank you!
Woody/Stuart, Thank you such and interesting presentation on an interesting project. Will visit the website. Great to see school kids, both boys and girls, getting involved. It is so important to keep history alive. Regards, Bob
