  1. The number/density of obstacles and environmentals might be playing a role – some of the other bullet heavens have similar levels, but the rather even level of detail for this one plus the slow movement of enemies in this makes it all blend together a bit.

Also, the perspective feels a little too close to top-down without actually being top-down, so I feel a faint bit of vertigo compared to something like a 40% viewing angle.

  2. there is nothing wrong with the visuals here, once you started going on about it (because you are tired), people will just agree, its a common human phenomena to do so, if you have never mentioned your perception (due to tiredness) they would never have thought of it. This is very unfair to the game, because now you trash its visuals, which are fine, for no reason in this video.

  3. Ngl, when you mentioned those two games where the devs were working on a bullet heaven, I actually had to Google both games because I honestly haven't heard of them before really. But then again, I also have been off Steam for a while now just due to hitting the login limit on both of my Steam accounts.

  4. The color palette of blues, greens, and purples; the slow movement of basically everything; and the kinda blurriness of the sprites and art all make me feel sleepy. Not exactly an actively energetic game. Some punchier sound effects (like VS's coin ka-ching noises), and some flashy lighting effects might help imho.

  5. I usually watch your videos before going to sleep. Some I watch to the end, others I sleep halfway. I fell asleep as soon as you picked your second weapon in the game…. not sure why though

  6. I don't know if it's the same thing, but I passed out a couple times playing Ogre Battle 64 back in the day. Mostly when I was grinding in conquered maps, but not always. My engagement was definitely related, but it had similarly blocky polygons marching at a steady pace.

  7. It’s the focal points your eyes get drawn to. The details are amazing for the projectiles, landscape, enemies. So the eyes are naturally drawn to those items instead of the character model which is more drab. So there is a constant context switching of your eyes to elements that decay/disappear. And it’s like an overstimulation of the eyes which causes them to go into a kind of meltdown for periods of time to “rest”. If that theory is correct then people with autistic or add tendencies would experience this to a greater degree which could explain how it wouldn’t affect others as much.

  8. The color palate and the amount of details makes me experience nausea. My opinion is it's hard to focus your vision on something specific while everything is moving around so smoothly around you is what tires the eyes out.

  9. It's funny you mention how the game is hard to follow/look at. I have that issue with the more monotone color bullet heaven games like 20 Minutes and Boneraiser Minions, but not with this one. My one complaint is that movement speed is quite slow, but the Devs added a Turbo mode once you unlock 8 stars, which helps.

  10. ETA: First thing that didn't occur until you commented about the archers not archering reminded me of the main reason I didn't enjoy this game as much. It's just a bunch of assets that do nothin but walk to you and that's it.

For me the reason it's because its too cartoony while being too not cartoonish? It reminds me of this twin stick shooter I volunteered to beta but then quit because it just seemed like someone made some assets and threw them into a game but didn't add any unique flair. When I loaded this game up, my only impression was "Oh, a poly clone of vampire survivor." Which, of all the bullet heavens I've played, that's the first one that gave me that vibe.

  11. The reason for sleepiness is simple: lack of stimulation or boredom.

Games can be stimulating in several ways. They might entice you to think/plan; the gameplay might excite you; the presentation (art/sounds/etc) might excite you.
You're playing a fairly generic implementation of a familiar genre, so mental stimulation is out the window.
Gameplay is very slow, and sound design doesn't emphasize attacks. I look at gameplay and I see a character floating around and enemies dying. Presentation doesn't do much to connect the 2.
Artistically, it's generic/okay, but not very stimulating (to me at least).

Rogue Genesia and cheaper looking survival games have a cleaner visual style, so when you're getting swarmed it's not just a sea of clutter, but very distinct threats approaching.

Fatigue is also an option, but I don't think it applies here.

  12. I'm glad to see you cover this game, I was curious what you'd think of it. The latest update was a nice surprise, more content, better management of "end game" (Curse in upgrades turned into Ruin modifyer for levels) SO I hope you'll get to experience more of its depths…In small bites, because yeah visuals are weird. For me I think it was the colours and the lighting, the angle of the light and how it changes during runs.

  13. if your mostly vegetarian and youre feeling sleepy constantly its probably a iron deficiency (no suppliments will not cover it)

also ask your missus if you snore and get a sleep app to see how often you snore, might have sleep apnea

could also be a hypothyroidism, blood test will cover to check that one

im currently going through this and you described my daily life

  14. I think the problem is related to the movement as everything nearly same speed and a lot of detail everywhere on the screen plus colour pallet make blur together more making the whole screen seem the same. causing you to have to focus really hard keep track of your character and what going on that if you let at all loos track of everything that think cause you brain to either to shot down to rest or loose engagement on the game.

  15. I would bet that it’s hard to look at, cause of weird level of detail in this game. Cause ground looks cloudy and blured. Everything around is nice and crispy tho. Brain can have some trouble on putting it together.

  16. The color saturation/contrast is weird, the pace is fairly slow, and the 3d models don't quite match their movements. All-in-all, it makes the game very hypnotic. Even with my years of practice fighting against sleep (hypersomnia sucks), I was still struggling to keep my eyes open. I don't necessarily hate it, but I think it would do better as a mobile game. One of those weird instances where you play it to fall asleep to xD

  17. This happens a lot to me if im playing alone, where i would just wake up, not remembering falling asleep. it might only be for a second or 2 but i would just suddely wake up and its not because the game is boring or anything its just weird.
