The Wild Ride of Our Elden Ring Review – Beyond 738

Elden Ring is just about here and the reviews for it are extremely positive! So on this week’s episode of IGN’s PlayStation Podcast, we chat about what it was like for Mitchell Saltzman to review such a massive game in 87 hours, and why it’s something fans of the genre will definitely love. We also explore all the new systems it has to offer, and how its open-world adds a dash of welcome flavor to an already tried and true concept.

Also, Jada Griffin sits down with Neil Jones the creator behind Aerial Knight’s Never Yield, to talk about its development, the game industry, and all the new content featured in DA Update.

There was also a bit of PlayStation news for folks to be excited about, including a look at the PS Plus games you’ll get to claim in March, as well as a quick discussion about the recently revealed look of the PSVR 2 headset.

  1. 23:52 thank god someone said it. These issues are why I’m surprised it got a perfect score. Wouldn’t the reviewer dock at least half a point for the terrible performance?!
This dude is right — we shouldn’t be giving From the benefit of the doubt on performance. Bloodborne frame pacing is STILL wack.

  2. I know I’m probably going to get some hate but this podcast is SO much better with a different host. I never usually finish the PS or Xbox podcasts, I think both hosts are really dull (I’m sure they’re lovely people irl). NVC and Gamescoop on the other hand, I listen to religiously and I think it’s because of the hosts.

  3. Great show! You did an amazing job, Mark! You’re a great Host! I’m a little surprised you’re still at IGN actually after mentioning the name that shall never be said on IGN last week.

  4. Haha, loved Bloodborne and Souls games, but honestly don’t understand the hype. Asides from open world aspect, the gameplay is literally identical to past games from the same genre. Open world, not something we haven’t seen before.

No matter how you spin something an open world is an open world. Nothing revolutionary.

Another case of pure hype because a game is simply long awaited. We are seeing it with Metroid Prime 4, which is a game in a series which is very niche considering that it is a Nintendo IP.
