Also whilst you are here do you want to see more train based disasters?
Let me know below 👇
I wonder why he didn't throw the emergency brake ? Seems like it's something you'd do as a last ditch effort.
The NTSB is a national treasure here in the States. It's one of the success stories in government that's consistently excellent and saves lives.
Pew-jet Sound. Not Poo-jet.
Nis-squall- ie
Just “I5”, not “the I5”.
'neo-liberalism' assures death and economic destruction to all nations who adopt its suicidal idiocy.
Dude didn't even bother hitting the brakes even when he realized his mistake cause he knew there was no point. That must have been terrifying to know theres nothing you can do to avoid a disaster
'Neo-liberalism' demands that shareholders are society's gods and that everyone and everything else on Earth exists solely to deliver ever larger financial gifts to them, in perpetuity and without question.
I never understood why work vehicles like trains dont have a more easy to understand user interface. Many times in professional work environments designs are used that would be outright outlawed in private applications. A simple example is a row of buttons of identical shape, form and colour of which one is a crucial one like the warning lights. In cars it has to be clearly marked. In a train it can be anywhere and only needs a little w or something … after all its for pros right?
This was about as local as it gets to me. I drive through there all the time and have taken the train across that same stretch of track a few times. My roommate got stuck in that traffic jam that happened because of this too. It's cool to see you covering this, and you did a pretty good job with the more difficult to pronounce PNW names, better than some other non-locals.
I heard that the power steering went out on the locomotive.
All that's left to say, is thank you for watching.
I miss that line
Thank you. Great vid! Poor voice.
Thanks for the video 👍 hope you feel better from your illness
Feel better soon!
Thank-you for this production!
Crazy that it happened only 5 years ago! So recent, considering
Hope you have recovered well
I doubt this would have happened if everyone would have just got vaccinated.
Get well soon!
45 that's FORTY FIVE videos on radiation and almost NONE on coal mine, hydro or gas. This is not exactly a balanced view of the price we pay for power.
Hey John, when you're doing stories set in the Pacific Northwest, you may want to take a few minutes to look up pronunciations. Many of the names are Native American tribe names and are pronounced differently than in places with primarily Spanish- or English-derived names.
“A little…little”. I think you meant to say pathetically and dangerously tiny. There was no excuse for that. That sign needed to be significantly larger and not prone to fog reflection when hit by headlights. The positive train control system should have already been in place and practice runs should have been run in route simulators and then in an engine-only run at slower speeds before the line was ever opened.
I remember when Amtrak came into being. As a child, my family took a spring break/Easter vacation to California. We flew into San Diego and drove our way up the coast to Seattle before taking the train across the northern states back to Chicago and back home. It was delightful. It was also still very new.
However, there were and still are a lot of Americans who will never use trains to travel because they refuse to be “inconvenienced” by timetables and not in control. They’re wedded to their cars and refuse to listen when the environmental benefits of fewer cars and such is explained and how other countries and continents have safe, efficient rail travel that works well. Hence, Amtrak has to scrape for budgets from the same people that bitch about the state of infrastructure while balking at paying taxes to fix it (and cheering for millionaires, billionaires and corporations to get permanent tax cuts) thus putting the burden on the very people doing the bitching.
Thank you for the content and get well soon.
Somehow the B-737 Max fell into mind.
PD, you might want to look into another disaster that happened years ago that's not talked about much, called the willow island disaster, where a lot of things to cut costs resulted in the fatality of almost all the workers, when the scaffolding collapsed due to the reactor they were building, which the scaffolding was connected to, started to collapse.
Not in the hospital anymore but still looking forward to these every time ❤
Edit: Hope you’re recovery goes well. Feel better!
I couldn't get home from work cause of this
I didn't know this was the first journey along the route. Yikes!
I don't know if this counts as a disaster, but could you do a video on the Aultsville, Ontario burning
