Captain Zara Khan of the UNS Prometheus encounters a hostile Volak Dominion warship while on a deep-space exploration mission. The Volaks demand the Prometheus submit to inspection, deeming them trespassers. As tensions rise, Elysian ambassador Elara offers to mediate, suggesting a neutral territory for discussions. Despite the Volaks’ threats, the crew attempts to maintain their mission of peace and exploration. The situation escalates when the Volaks deny permission to pass and threaten to board. Unexpectedly, the Elysians intervene, proposing a peaceful resolution, which leads to a tentative negotiation for a neutral meeting place, potentially averting immediate conflict.

  1. This story is quite unbelievable. A single human ship declares war on someone in the name of the entire planet after being told not to.
I think the humans would have her executed as a way to end the war.
Oh and, where did that other alien group run off to?

  2. It's so sad this channel isn't willing to get it's act together. These stories are all disconcertingly disconnected. How did we get from the neutral station to Volak warships being in the Sol system and drones being released to attack them? How/when did Zara go from captaining an exploration vessel to commanding Earth's defenses? How did her ship turn into a warship? Is it the only ship Earth has? How did it withstand the might of the Volak armada while the drones were inactive for several days? This is like 2 different stories slapped together and a big chunk missing in the middle. As an aside – why did the Volak even allow the Prometheus to leave it's custody in the first place? This is totally out of character for them. It wasn't because of the Elysians which they called an inferior species and basically told them to bug off.

  3. Appeasement Policy, the foolish endeavor of a government to delay the inevitable. For those lacking in an education of WWII History, the PM of Britain, prior to Winston Churchill, chose appeasement when dealing with Hitler. Bad move. It failed miserably, putting Britain in a weakened position. It enabled Hitler to strengthen his forces while Britain backpedaled and cowed. Thinking Hitler would leave Britain alone as long as they appeased the Germans and compromised proved to be disastrous. The aggressors love appeasement policies instituted by their prey.
Interesting that an exploration ship could be so readily retrofitted with advanced, classified, banned weaponry out in the void of space with Earth command oblivious, not to mention a fighter squadron which would need flight crew, hanger bays, etc . Personally, I think all exploration/science ships should be armed to the teeth from the onset.

  4. The continuity in most of these stories is just terrible, how does one practice diplomacy with an aggressor that you banned from the meeting room at the outset? How did they escape from the (supposedly) brutal/oppressive/warmongering/aggressive Volaks?

  5. We understand some of the recent stories haven't been up to our usual standard. We're working through all the feedback and will be improving the stories I promise! As one of the very few Human HFY channels we really appreciate your support, and thank you for sticking with us!

  6. Volaks: We don't care about anything anyone has to say. But we're going to listen…… just cuz.

Exactly what does "Human HFY channels" mean? It's either AI generated and human read or human written and read. If it's the latter I'm calling BS. It's almost impossible for an AI to generate a story and have it be indistinguishable from a human.

  7. There are some channels that have rotating or changing pictures to make the story a little more fun or interesting. That would be a nice idea for your stories.

  8. In the real world, we are already seeing autonomous drones who can now choose targets and shoot, all without human intervention. It has either recently been tested, or is about to be tested in the conflict in Ukraine. Probably by both sides. We should have solved the Skynet problem AND the paperclip factory problem of AI long before we’re flying extra-solar exploration missions.

  9. Wow. I am almost at a loss for words. I have probably read thousands of books. Some good, some bad.

    And then, there was this…

    How to describe it.

A minimally armed scientific vessel starts a mission not far from Earth system.

It runs into a Volok Battleship who supposedly have their Dominion on the other side of the Galaxy.

The Volok Battleship's weapons and armor completely outclass the Promethious science vessel.

The Voloks say that this system is part of their territory and require the Earth vessel to prepare to be boarded and searched.

Then, some aliens in another little ship show up and say "hey lets go over to this neutral area and chat.

And the Voloks let them dance away.

Then, the Captain of the Earth science vessel decides they have to take action against the Voloks who are the most powerful badasses around.

Even though her admiral said, "Let it go, Earth can't stand against them."

So, she gets together with her lieutenant, who digs into the archives and discovers all the secret plans of a super weapon.

And, they also amazingly know the name of the Earth scientist who developed it and contact her.

That scientist flies out to the science vessel and goes over the lieutenant's plans (because she didn't keep any of her own). She finds a way to build the secret weapo, which is AI drone.

Oops. Wait a second. They also activate caches of these secret drones, which were stashed in various other solar systems.

Then, even though they aren't at war, they send them to attack Volok ships.

These badass Voloks then bring their giant armada against Earth.

Which is defended by the Promethious Science vessel and a bunch of fighters.

And the Promethious is in the heart of the battle for days and days fighting her little heart out.

Even though it was said that she wasn't a warship and that even just one (1) Volok Battleship could blow her into space dust without even trying.

But somehow, even though it can't stand up against a single battleship, it's able to stand up against the entire Volok Armada.

And even though Earth has Naval admirals, they turn everything over to the captain of the science vessel.

Then, they get the drones back on, and they stalemate.

So, some scientists on the enemy side who have never even heard of them or her, or spoke to them before contact them for a truce.

And somehow these scientists are also able to force their Supreme warleader to accept a truce.

Even more, those same scientists are willing to give secret Naval information to the Earthers who started the war against their race.

Then, a single Earthman goes aboard the alien vessel and disables it. But hey, isn't it always only a single Earthman who disables the enemy ship??

That makes the Voloks Supreme Warleader look bad, so they declare peace.

FYI, I skipped all the drama about the existence of humanity depended on, inward reflections of the soul, etc.

The problem with this story is that it isn't a story.

It had a couple of decent ideas, but it was gutted and squashed together with no logical sequence.

As someone else expressed, I want my 38 minutes back.

Instead of reading whatever shows up, please take some time to separate the diamonds from the rough.

    Sincerely,

    JWN
