Salvatore had always been a brave man, one who never feared the darkness or the unknown. That was, until the outbreak. The world had fallen to a plague of the undead, zombies that roamed the streets, hungry for flesh. Salvatore had been lucky enough to survive this long, but luck could only last so long in a world like this.
He had been wandering alone for weeks, scavenging what he could and avoiding the hordes of zombies that roamed the city. Then, he met Rhonda. She had been holed up in an old department store, living off of canned goods and bottled water. She was beautiful, with long curly hair and soft green eyes. Salvatore was smitten, but he knew he had to be careful. Everybody was a potential threat in this world, even the ones you fell in love with.
They had teamed up, scavenging together and fighting off the occasional zombie. Everything seemed to be going well, but Salvatore couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off about Rhonda. She was too perfect, too put together, in a world that was falling apart. He had heard stories of people who turned to cannibalism in these times, and he couldn’t help but wonder if Rhonda was one of them.
One night, as they were sitting around a campfire, Salvatore decided to confront her. “Rhonda, I’ve been thinking… I know we’ve only known each other for a little while, but I need to know. Are you… are you a cannibal?”
Rhonda’s eyes widened, and she looked offended. “What? No, Salvatore, of course not. I don’t know where you’re getting this from.”
Salvatore wasn’t convinced. “I’m sorry, Rhonda, but I can’t take any chances. We need to go our separate ways.”
Rhonda looked hurt and angry, but Salvatore didn’t let it get to him. He packed up his things and left, heading towards the nearest town. It was a two-day journey, but he knew he had to do it. He couldn’t trust anyone in this world.
But as he got closer to the town, things started to get weirder. The sky grew darker, and the air grew colder. The trees were bare, and the ground was covered in a thick layer of fog. Salvatore’s instincts were screaming at him to turn around and go back, but he had come too far. He had to get to the town.
When he finally reached it, he wished he hadn’t. The town was deserted, the buildings crumbling and covered in vines. There were no signs of life, no zombies, not even the sound of the wind. It was like time had stopped in this place.
Salvatore cautiously made his way through the town, searching for any signs of life. But he found nothing, until he stumbled upon an old church. It was ancient, the stones worn and blackened with age. And yet, there was something comforting about it, like it was a beacon of hope in the darkness.
He pushed open the heavy oak doors, and was greeted with the smell of incense and dust. The inside of the church was just as old as the outside, with tattered tapestries hanging from the walls and a stone altar in the center. Salvatore felt a chill run down his spine, like someone was watching him.
And then, he heard a sound. It was like something scraping against stone, a slow and deliberate noise that made his heart race. He turned around, and there she was.
Rhonda.
But she was different now. Her skin was pale and clammy, her eyes black pits of nothingness. Her clothes were torn and dirty, her hair hanging in greasy tangles around her face. There was something in her eyes, a hunger that Salvatore had never seen before.
He tried to back away, but Rhonda lunged at him. He dodged her, and ran towards the altar. But she was fast, and she caught up to him, grabbing him by the arm. Her grip was like iron, and he couldn’t break free.
“Rhonda, what happened to you? What did you do?”
Rhonda didn’t answer, only grinned at him with her black teeth. She pulled him towards her, and Salvatore felt her breath on his face. It was cold, and smelled like death.
And then she sank her teeth into his neck.
Salvatore screamed, a sound that echoed through the empty church. He felt Rhonda’s teeth ripping through his flesh, her saliva mixing with his blood. He struggled to break free, but it was no use. She was too strong.
And then, suddenly, she let go. Salvatore stumbled backwards, clutching his bleeding neck. Rhonda stood in front of him, smiling that hideous smile.
“Welcome to the family, Salvatore.”
And with that, the other zombies emerged from the shadows. Salvatore knew then that he was doomed, that there was no escaping this nightmare. He had trusted the wrong person, and it had cost him his life.
The room was filled with the sound of his screams, as the zombies devoured him, tearing him apart limb by limb. And as Salvatore’s life faded away, he knew that he would be one of them soon, a zombie in a world of darkness and death.
The end….
