Beware manga spoilers in this video!

Happy Halloween! Zombies are introduced in Bleach thanks to Sternritter ‘Z’, Giselle Gewelle, so I thought we could take as long a look as we can stomach into the depraved world of the zombie queen herself! How is zombification used in Bleach? Who does she manage to ensnare? Let’s dive in!

  1. Happy Halloween! (For tomorrow…) What did you think of the way zombies were used in Bleach? Was there anyone you were hoping to see make a return, whether under Giselle's control or Mayuri's, that didn't? Let me know!

  2. Giselle is a really messed up character even though unlike e.g. Äs Nodt she didn't seem that way at first.
So I must say that I'm really looking forward to your character analysis of Giselle.

  3. A lot of people are defending Giselle as a transwoman. Kubo only confirmed it's a biological man, but never commented if Giselle is trans or not.
I knew that he is nuts, but I never had a deeper look into it. Abilities alone and the way he uses it more than I was expecting.

I mean, if you want to defend a cruel, despicable, horrible, psychotic character like that being a representation for transpeople – knock yourself out, but don't tell others how to talk about him

IMO Giselle it's just like Astolfo – many characters mistake this femb0y/trap character as a woman, and that's basically it. It's a crossdressing dude, and until Kubo confirms or denies it, it's a dude for me
Remember that Japan has different outlook on crossdressing than the west

  4. Giselle giving blood out, then taking it back later to stay alive – a bit of a parallel to Yhwach giving out parts of his soul (by having people drink his blood, if I remember correctly) and then taking back that power later in order to not regress into his helpless infant state.

  5. Its monday! I can smell the FEAR already. I cannot wait.
Edit: on topic, Giselle was so darn cute. With that tiny lil hat too. Such a goof, she's so fun.

I just realized, lil Shiro gets some wacky stuff happening to him in this arc. Goin zombie, losing his bankai n goin hollowish. Kubo had to even it all out by giving him "teen heartthrob" mode. Which if you ask me, really doesn't tip the balance too much. Hell at least he didn't get the Kira treatment.

  6. Having Bambietta resurrected was honestly a complete slap in the face to Komamura.
The guy became a friggen' dog in order to defeat her, and then she still comes back??? Of course, she's a zombie now, but she causes the same amount of destruction.

  7. Was she one of those tran characters that the peacock guy could tell was a man. I remember he said he could smell um the baby batter from one of his opponent I forget what fight it was but really like that line lol

  8. Historically, zombification had nothing to do with eating flesh or brains or viruses–zombies were people who were mind controlled. It served as a massive parallel to actual slavery. It was originally much more of a supernatural thing than one of science. So it was striking that Jizzelle was making people into her slaves, dark skin and all.

  9. Idk I love they brought back the underdog espada, I feel like it was a genuine surprise and I feel like they’re fun characters. I think bringing the actual espada back would invalidate the arrancar arc further, especially considering barely anybody at all died that arc, which was so weird.

  10. This is definitely the most uncomfortable and crazy parts of the manga. When Kubo said that he was writing the manga with no TV restrictions in mind, that is the part that pops up in my mind.

The way Giselle treats Bambietta, who is really perverse, but is supposedly her friend is the definition of mess up and sinister. I really hope the anime make the anime onlys feel the way I felt as I read that part of the manga.

  11. I truly think Toshiro is the most powerful shinigami. Or if he isn’t right now he will be as soon as he controls his power. His abilities are broken and he’s the only one I can see even touching the level yamamoto was at.
