When thinking about South Park’s most iconic characters, it feels kind of bizarre to realize that one of THE most iconic hasn’t been on the show in EIGHTEEN years. While South Park made a huge splash with its irreverent humor, vulgarity and cheap animation, back in its early days, there were few characters more beloved than Isaac Hayes’ Chef. The soul singin’ mentor to the main 4 boys, Chef was effectively the primary adult character in the show AND the series’ voice of reason for a lot of its early run. That is, until a much publicized and contentious exit from the show in 2006 after South Park lampooned scientology. Despite this messy end for Chef, and later revelations about the nature of his exit, Chef is STILL one of the most important characters in the show’s history, and while they’ve managed to find new characters to elevate and new kinds of stories to tell, I think he has left an undeniable hole in the show that will never quite be filled. So today let’s look at one of South Park’s most beloved characters and explore the Tragic Loss of Chef.

I can't help but imagine how some episodes would with Chef in them
That line about the Emancipation Proclamation from Chef and the response from the general in the movie is one of my all-time favorite moments from this series. It always leaves me laughing. I'm just glad Trey and Matt went out on good terms with Issac, as that cult is what is it: A cult. If anything, South Park helped so much in exposing their BS, that it's why most don't look at Scientology with good intentions anymore. May Issac's soul rest in the beyond for all the good he has done for music, movies, and pop culture in-general
Also, hi Ceric lol. Or the actual VA for Ceric
May this man rest in piece, he didnt deserve any of that happening to him
Chef was lame, I was glad when he left. Singing and crude comedy are incongruent imo. It only kinda worked when he played a role analogous to Home Improvement's neighbor guy. Where he gives sage advice that the main characters hilariously misunderstand. The show historically works best when it relies on Cartman for the comedy. The ignorant adults are pretty funny too. Lately they've gotten a lot of great laughs from Randy too. I'd say Cartman and Randy Marsh are the two comedy gold mines.
I absolutely love "Tonight Is Right For Love" with Chef and Meatloaf its so good! I hope they both are restinf easy.❤
Modern YouTube baffles me. You can say "shit" but you can't say a medical word for female anatomy.
I hate Chef. They got rid of him perfectly. I hope he found Xenu but I doubt it
I don't care what anyone says, Isaac Hayes was murdered by the scientology cult.
So in Hungary South Park is dubbed. Chef's voice over was simply done again by the same actor. You could imagine the confusion around the character haha
Thank you for doing this video. You’re a man of your word.
reminder for everyone that isnt scottish its pronounced e-din-bruh
Did Stone and Parker ever apologise for shitting on Hayes' memory in what amounted to childish spite over hurt feelings, after it became clear that he likely didn't choose to quit at all and was the victim of Scientology acting on his behalf without his consent? It kinda feels like they would but I can't seem to find anything about it either way.
I don't think that Isaac really wrote that, but with scientology's reputation for things happening to detractors within the cult, even if he did write it, it would have been no doubt under some form of duress
Isaac Hayes was an incredible singer.
Not the Ceric Artman cameo
We finally got the video! Chef was such a great character and a staple of the show for the first 9 years. It's unfortunate events unfolded the way they did, but it's also such a shame to realize that even if it hadn't been for his stroke(assuming he truly didn't intend to quit the show)we probably still would've lost the character at around the same point. If I'm not mistaken I think his health may have continued to decline in the years leading to his passing.
Great video Johnny. Happy New Year.
Google how to pronounce Edinburgh
“What would a priest wanna put my butt?”
“… Goodbye!” 😂
So sad, all because of a stupid cult.
Sad that his VA passed but seeing as he was a member for that church not that much of a loss
Scientology caused us to lose Chef
It's honestly horrifying to think he had a stroke and someone spoke for him like a puppet. Like imagine having a medical episode that leads to you unable to speak for yourself and someone uses that to speak on your behalf using your body/mind/reputation for their own agenda. An organization that only cares for itself like a parasite.
