In today’s Terraria video we’re taking a look back at the time Re-Logic trolled the Terraria community by announcing the totally fake (but real) Duke Fishron.

  1. Duke is such an odd boss also, likely for this exact reason. He's not e, actly scaled to completion BUT he is FAR from unbeatable premech. Think about it isn't it strange how he's the inky odd one out like that? Every other hard mode boss is in sync with the available equipment as a mwdio re challenge and can't actually, unlike prehardmode, be done out of order so to speak. But unlike other hard mode bosses, fighting duke at earliest available opportunity is almost impossible, some others are just hard but not 'almost impossible'

  2. I think the tidal moon was thought of but then scrapped because they were no longer a fan of the idea, and they kept Duke in as a stand-alone boss both to troll those that thought he was fake and because they didn’t have as much of an issue with him

  3. I feel like maybe the whole thing started out as an April Fools joke, but then after seeing people talking about it so much, they decided to program Duke Fishron in as a boss at the last minute to make the joke a reality. That would explain why the boss is in the game, and summoned through a method unrelated to anything described in the post, but none of the rest of that made it in.

  4. Something funny is that the Spirit mod has the ocean event 'The Tide' which, while different to pumpkin and frost moons, is still a huge fest of enemies. Patiently waiting for its port to 1.4.4 tmodloader :>

  5. I remember the first time I ran into Duke Fishron, back in like 2015. I kept losing to the mech bosses, so I was just looking for another boss to fight, and I saw duke fishron on the wiki. Took me like an hour to get the stupid truffle worm, it rose out of the water and one shot me. I was horrified

  6. if they thought this was fake, imagine Red trying to introduce the Moon Lord…

(I am not on any social media platforms so idk what red actually did to introduce the Moon Lord)

  7. This isn't even the only time that they trolled everyone. Red commented on a reddit post gaslighting people about the scraggler lmfao. I still can't find a straight answer on whether or not it was real, I'm just assuming no.

  8. I find that companies that like to joke around a bit can do pretty well with their audiences. But even companies that aren't known for being silly, have a perfect opportunity to try out some of the more-outlandish ideas that they marketing department (or anyone really) has tried pitching. Even the comments you overlaid on this video show a good trend to it… "Oh ha ha, April Fools… good idea though, you know I could see this actually working."

I mean, even the Minecraft April Fools joke this year can bee seen as basically a big test for some sort of Twitch/stream-Integration patch they could actually add to the game. 🙂 You know.

  9. I think the funniest thing about this post, is that it seems the Tidal Moon event is what became the Lunar event
Like it begins with a fight against a boss, which upon defeating summons an event tied to the moon, where you fight hordes of enemies to upgrade your gear, before it ends with a final fight against the antithesis of life in the Terraria world
Yeaaa sounds very similar in concept to what we actually got in 1.3 lmfao

  10. Honestly, the idea of some kind of ocean/moon-themed event isn't actually that bad. The thematic link of the tides is definitely there, and the Moon Lord does rather resemble a squid, after all.

  11. I think that the Tidal Moon was going to initially be an event, but they might have scrapped it for whatever reason. Though I think that Fishron's phase 3 may be a leftover/callback to the scrapped idea, since it may have been what they were gonna use for the background during the Tidal Moon event
