Just watched your reaction. Told you shouldn;t have watched it!! But what did you think of it, compared to 'Alien' or 'Predator'?
play the game , i did was after the film, back in the time , great to play
41 years and this is still the best version of this 85 year old story. Written in 1938 as a novella, then made into a film in 1951 with a young James Arness. Originally set in the Arctic. Then Carpenter got his hands on it in 1982 and created a masterpiece, re-set it in the Antarctic and filmed it in Alaska. Excellent film, even now
Wow, you watched "The Thing"!! I didn’t think that you would have the courage to do this) This is a truly cult movie. In addition to the excellent script, acting and excellent special effects, it makes a lot more sense than it might seem at first glance. The film contains a hint about our world and all people, because anyone around us could turn out to be such a Thing. A seemingly ordinary person can turn out to be a deceiver, a swindler, a maniac, mentally ill, someone with AIDS, and much more. And you may not even know about it.
THE ENDING EXPLAINED
So the thing was in Childs and not Macready. In the end, you can see Macreadys breath in the cold, but not Childs. Macready noticed this, so to confirm it, he handed Childs the bottle after he drank from it. If Childs was human, he wouldn't drink from it because he could get contaminated. But since he was already the thing, he didn't fear it. That's why Macready laughed, he outsmarted an alien.
Also, Norris (the dude who split open during cpr) had a pacemaker in his heart. The thing can only copy organic things, so it conflicted with the device and have him a bad heart again. That's why he had a heart attack.

The original movie was "The Thing from Another World" (Christian Nyby, 1951), really worth watching. Also recommend "Invasion of the Body Snatchers", the original from 1958 (Don Siegel), and from 1978 (Philip Kaufman).
Oh lucky you. Seeing The Thing for the first time. My favorite horror movie of all time.
If it's any consolation when I saw it in the cinema on it's original showing, most of the audience had fled by the time the dog scene ended……If someone had shouted "bomb" you could not have cleared the cinema quicker… It's no wonder the film flopped at the box office. Audiences wanted ET and they got this instead.. Whoops…….

So happy you got to finally watch and react to The Thing! It scared the bejeezus out of me when I was seven years old back in 1982! Hope you get to watch the prequel that came out in 2011!
I don't want to comment about The Thing but you giving a hard NO The Exorcist is stupid. Ignoring not only the greatest horror of all time but one of the greatest movies of all time is ridiculous if you want to call yourself a movie fan, it's not that scary but it is that important in the history of cinema.
Congrats to you Cassie! If you're up to it, please watch the 2011 prequel of the same title name. The prequel tells the story of what happened to the Norwegian crew. But, be warned: the 2011 film has a lot of gore as well.

One of my favorite scary movies ever. What even makes it more intense is the soundtrack. I believe there are comics books that pickup the story of "The Thing" after Antarctica with Childs and McCready if I'm not mistaken.
I tried showing this movie to one of my friend's teenage sons a few years back….he got to the world would be infected in 27,000 hours part and refused to watch the rest.
Childs was the thing. His breath did not show in the cold at the end. Only Macreadys.
The pratical effects in this movie make it hold up pretty good today.
An absolutely superb movie, one of my personal top ten in any genre. I disagree that the effects truly hold up, there were some slightly ropy ones even then, but the overall effect is what matters and they got that 100% right. Isolation, paranoia, existential dread, these are the things that keep this movie so fresh. Paired with an amazing music score and a top-notch cast, if you want a horror experience, look no further.
Well done Cassie for getting through "the thing". I first watched this as a young kid and scared the bajesus out of me and gave my nightmares for weeks 😂. It's Such a just well done, scarry and atmospheric film, great director and actors, and one of the best horrors of all time imho.
You should watch The Thing (2011) It is a direct prequel based in the Norwegian research station.
This is my FAVORITE horror movie…….
My theory is that Mcready was the Thing. He was too close to the blood splatter while testing it not to have gotten it on him and infected. It was slow to take him over since it was just tiny drops of blood that infected him. Then when he threw the dynamite at the Thing toward the end the explosion was too large for him to have survived in one piece, but since he was already infected thereafter it was the Thing with Childs at the end. Escape From New York next please!

You cannot compare the "Thing" to the "Exorcist", the Exorcist is one movie I avoid watching to this very day since I saw it the first time when I was about 6 or 7 years old on the old tv set, really scared the life out of me 😳
When I saw this thumbnail, I thought you are the one person that probably shouldn't watch this movie.
As for the question of if any of them were the thing at the end, perhaps thousands, maybe tens of thousands of man hours have been spent trying to figure that out. Horror movie nerds met at conventions, exchanged hand written letters, debated it in horror movie fan magazines, all in an effort to figure out if Childs or McCready were the thing, as well as who was infected when, and who really did what at what point. This was all before the internet, so it often entailed some significant effort.
The absolute pinnacle of horror. Brillaint acting, amazing creature effects by Rob Botin. Claustrophobia, paranoia ..intense, a thriller, a whodunnit, a sci fi? What is ..The Thing?…a masterpiece that waa absolutely panned at the time of release. Carpenters peak. You did amazing to get through this bless you. ❤

Cassie, you were one of the quickest reactors to figure out something was wrong with the dog-o, even before it gets put in the kennel. Alien and the Thing are the 2 scariest movies i had ever seen in a theater as a 20 year old. Love sci-fi horror with creatures like the Predator, but hate the slasher movies as enough evil exists in the world without promoting it.

One possibility: They were not supposed to share food, "prepare your own meals" is mentioned – so when Mac offers his bottle to Childs at the end, Childs should not have taken it – but he did and Mac gives a slight chuckle – he knows Childs is not Childs… Love your reactions the best. 🙂
Kurt Russell thought the hat was hilarious too. In the audio commentary he said "It's a scene about a pair of goggles and a hat" when the three are at the cliff looking at the ship (the audio commentary is great BTW, all Kurt Russell and John Carpenter audio commentaries are great).
Firstly, MAJOR KUDOS for choosing this one, it is a classic and well done for getting through it, your sister is a wuss for not joining you and you can tell her I said that. If you want a bit of a cleanse as well as a bit more Kurt Russell I strongly recommend "Big Trouble in Little China", funny action movie from the 80's.
The creature effects were all practical as well, no CGI at all, just like Alien/Aliens and the fact that they stand up still is a testiment to the high quality. I nearly snorted my tea when you said "Please be a good dog!" Nope, not a good dog!
Lastly there was a follow on comic book from the 90's that revealed that Child's was the Thing, the pair of them get rescued and brought to Argentina and Mcready has to go through more horror before finishing The Thing off for good.
