Seems that DCS have released an early beta for multithreaded/multicore processors so this may improve the performance on large battles. Would you cover the MT patch and try to test it to the limits? I think there was a couple of battles like the Korean peninsula you could redo with the new patch
Interesting attempt to illustrate the reallity of WW3. Nice to hear ex-pilots confirm NATO first strike nuclear philosophy. After a "limited" fallout producing air burst on a Soviet tactical unit how long before their ICBMs start raining down on the world's major cities? 24 hours from that first strike to returning to the Stone Age in my estimation. The 80s and 90s were terrifying times and good to see GR doing a reasonably serious job of it. Even if the nukes were kept on hold the attrition rate for NATO pilots would have rendered at least the RAF inoperable after 2 weeks and probably NATO until Uncle Sam comes over the hill with reinforcements. Assuming the USA still exists as an entity at this point…

This is precisely why the F-117 was developed. To take out control systems for the nastier SAM systems and other C3 assets. At least in its initial employments.

Teeny, tiny nit-pick. When your man starts referring to the 1st, 3rd, 4th, 31st Squadrons etc, it honestly sets my teeth on edge. It's pronounced One Squadron, Three Squadron etc. It's not the USAF.

34:32 US was using shrikes in vietnam, they were easy to fool, but still had them to use, I mean that is where wild weaseling started. Keep the radar operator painting you on so operator could not turn it off and fool the shrike.

The fact that nukes would have been dropped on German soil proper is the reason why West-Germany had been outfitted with nuclear bombs, so if NATO nukes a NATO member it'd better be the member itself.
Anyway, many conventional battles were scheduled to only serve as a delay to pin the WP forces to a known location and nuke the shit out of them.
Everyone had expected survival times from seconds to minutes after first engagement.
My unit's role was to set up alternate radio teletype connection between remote transmitters of the German MOD and the leadership of the different forces. Even we were expected to not survive a second transmission, because the Russkies knew the transmitters signature. Our piece of kit was only used for that role. Powering up the 1kW transmitter meant lighting up a huge, blinking please-nuke-me-now sign.

We got a train ticket (!) to get evacuated from NRW to the 'safety' of Belgium. Living next to the Nike Hercules base, we dd not expect to enough time to even find the tickets, let alone use them.
Cap, another great mission with your boys of GR. Totally relate to it. "1984" was bracketed by my two, mostly forgotten, deployments. The Cold War European/NATO scenario was always in discussion in America/Canada, I had a compatriot serving in Canadian AF and I, as Army-NG aviation were drilling often for possible deployment was always in the news but as any silly "milestone" of literature, popular culture approached, the news would be triggered to frighten their viewer base, hopefully to great Nielsen Rating Numbers, silly manipulators. We did a lot of work to do in improving ops after the problems of Grenada, so the significance of "1984" is not lost to us, those well read, so the media went all out to attach the constant war theatre of Big Brother to The Cold War., we had to do MUCH better, we did, later annihilating the PDF.
I & mine did our preparations/training ops, very focused, with a bit of pithy fun, after all ultimately we we in the business of killing Neo-Axis pogues with extreme prejudice through the Fulda Gap. Our mix of A-10s, UH-60s, upgraded UH-1s were our area of ANG support aviation ops. "Simulations" were for pilots, infantry only then, the home gaming stuff flight sim was early tech, home entertainment, but we dabbled in it, today, what GR does with it, is amazing and fun stuff.
But do remember Cap, good guys & gals, did die in my two, mostly ignored, deployments: Granada/Panama, attached to the 160th SOAR. We owned the night and we vanquished Castro's Cubans then later, Noriega's PDF. No Mogadishu, had medicaled-out due cancer diagnosis, heart-breaking what our boys suffered but they stood to, delivered the hurt and Aidid's lieutenants. Chin-chin…
