The Terracotta Army in China
The Terracotta Army is a collection of life-sized terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of the first Emperor of China, Qin Shi Huang. These sculptures were buried with the emperor in 210–209 BCE with the purpose of protecting him in the afterlife. The army consists of thousands of sculptures, including soldiers, chariots, horses, and cavalry, and was discovered in 1974 by local farmers in Xi’an, China. It is now considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
