  1. This review was pretty much exactly what I expected, so that only makes me more convinced in getting the game tomorrow. I played a Steam demo a while back (covered up to the Drowned Brother boss shown a couple times in this video), and I found the difficulty tough, but not too insane. Certainly not on the level of Aeterna Noctis, which so far is the toughest metroidvania I've ever tried, to the point where I quickly had to drop it, because it just felt so hard, I wasn't able to enjoy myself in any way. I'm expecting this one will be tough, but I'm fairly confident I can manage it, lol

  2. I'll definitely be checking this out even though the name is a blatant attempt to cash in on Elden Ring. The art style kind of reminds me of Death's Gambit: Afterlife, which is one my my absolute favorite souls-like metroidvanias. From what you have described and from what has been shown, the combat in the game looks fun and the system that rewards getting in consecutive precise hits sounds like something I'd like. Maybe the hammer wasn't as impressive as it sounded because you couldn't just go around smashing everything without any real objective. Even though I am a fiend for 2D souls-like games, I can see how that specific kind of difficulty can be a turn-off for a lot of players so I get why there are people who aren't into them. Thanks for the review, I'll be looking into this game in the somewhat near future.

  3. Yeah, I sorta gave up asking or even expecting games like this to have more accessible difficulties. I've heard so many of the reasons, like it would hurt the experience, or easy mode is using online co-op, and like I just don't get it. I'm even talking as somebody who enjoys these types of games at their current level of difficulty, so it isn't like I'm biased due to an inability to really like these games. If anything, my love for these kinds of games should place me in the camp that gets upset at the mere mention of accessibility, but it doesn't somehow.
Anyway, I'm sorry Literary Rose had to deal with all the rage these kinds of games can induce. If it's any consolation, I found the review very informative and helpful and I doubt I woulda ever found this game without this channel.

  4. This seems like it'll be pretty good for those who actually enjoy Soulslike difficulty and combat in their games. But that's why it personally isn't for me. It looks beautiful and it sounds like a great job has been done with the audio too. It's nice to hear that it performs well on PC too. That's always important. But yeah, as I said, I'm not into Soulslike difficulty and having to be super precise with my timing (unless I'm playing a rhythm game), so I'll pass on this one. But that said, I appreciate the review all the same.

  5. I can handle games like these being ball busters. It's pretty much baked into the sub-genre at this point, so I can't really complain about getting smeared across the landscape.

In every other sense, I'm reminded pretty strongly of Death's Gambit, which I really enjoyed. Like DG, I'd love to see this one come to consoles in the future.

  6. I have a very weird stance when it comes to 2d Souls-likes. I could never get into Salt and Sanctuary, and I found Death Gambit(og) to be an unenjoyable, un-balanced, sorry mess, despite the majority of people playing it really enjoying it. But then there's ones I really enjoyed like Vigil: The Longest Night, and Dark Devotion, so…"difficulty" really has nothing to do with it, guess Im just selective. I found myself enjoying this game more than I thought I would, and I wasnt overly frustrated. On this, my first playthrough, I'm close to the end and I haven't died as much as I'd have though. I personally went Dexterity + Vitality and never really looked back. I'm doing some pretty crazy damage and am quite fast, also using a pretty good set(one of the ones with 0+ stats as individual armor pieces).
If you find this game hard, the game might yet be un-balanced, I dont know, I haven't played enough with stats and all weapon scaling, but I will tell you one thing. There is a godly, downright broken Gift that although lowers your bandages to 3, lets you earn one every time you do a decent amount of damage – it occurs so often, as long as you're offensive enough, you can pretty much get unlimited heals.
Souldiers, …Souldiers benefited from the difficulty being lowered, only to have it surface back naturally via NG+(have you played that yet??). And though I thoroughly enjoy that game too, its worst sin imo is the intolerable, abysmal 100%ing(aka finding all the items), but thats a tale for another time.
Before you complain about the game's "brutal difficulty", I'd encourage you to keep trying, this IS a game where you can get good at, learn enemy and boss hit patterns well, maybe just try using something else for offense, as Ive stated, it COULD be un-ballanced, I don't know. I dont want to see legit good games get a bad rep that's seemingly not worth it. Tmv~

  7. I am a fan of metroidvanias and souls-likes, but the older i get and the more i play them, the more i dislike this artificial difficulty level. Its like devs dont understand what makes Souls special. They put dark pixel art and over-tuned bosses (tons of health and 1 hit kills) and call it a day. Souls games were never about that, but this is what this genre became.
I dont expect cakewalk, but dying 20 times to intro boss is not my jam.

  8. This looks fantastic! I'll see how I do with the difficulty. I'm pretty decent at soulslikes so maybe I'll manage, but that boss in the footage while you were talking about difficulty hits like a truck. And shame that you can't feasibly build a ranged character, I'm one of those nerds who like to play mages in soulslikes when given the option. This game absolutely screams Switch release. Fingers crossed it sells well enough to get a port 🤞

  9. Haha, awesome coping but good review overall! I'm sold from that lol, I play hardcore games; 100% Code Vein, Elden RIng, and many others. Looks like another game to have a good time.

  10. I don't mind difficulty where every battle is fun and fair, even if you got killed, it is still your fault, but I really hate difficulty created by clunky control while the enemies has light speed movement, hit hard like a truck or gank squad that this game really like throwing and forcing you to fight them . Please dev, throwing a bunch of enemies with attacks that do not work well together is not challenging, it is just bullshit

  11. The game is wonderful. Everyone keeps tearing it down about its difficulty its not that hard neither is dark sould so don't let her scare u away. She was showing that boss when she was going on about bad feelings and what not that boss is completely optional it got me many times then I went away and came back hours later and crushed it and it's not necessary. Can't recommend this enough
