“It’s disappointing that Royal Mail seems to be saying one thing to the public and then The Sunday Times has exposed the complete opposite.”
Royal Mail bosses have “serious questions to answer”, says Shadow Health Secretary Wes Streeting, after The Sunday Times investigation reveals Royal Mail has been prioritising parcels over letters.

Simon Thompson CEO of Royal Mail lied on oath to Parliament, saying tracked packages not prioritised over letters, shameful behaviour 😢
my local mp went into the post office and demanded to speak to managers and got a in person meeting with the regional manager. our post got sorted within a week after that. we had months of no letters
Sunday Times dramatic exposé? I hardly think so. I've no idea if they are prioritising parcels over letters but if they are then that's probably a good thing because who wouldn't want a parcel containing an item of value that you've probably ordered yourself to be delivered in good time for Christmas as opposed to receiving a card from someone you only ever hear from at Christmas? Anyway, the Postie has just delivered two cards today ( a Sunday!) So I think it's the usual journalistic garbage inventing yet another fake story
my mp paula barker had to go in twice to find out why they were doing this
this is a scandal? HAHAHAHAAHAHA
Lol times radio is full of grifters. Same idiots who called for the privatisation of royal mail.
Another national concern, privatised for the benefit of huge executive pay and shareholders failing its users. When will enough be enough?
Tracked and specials are priorities over everything, I work for Royal Mail, every single manager has said to leave the mail if there’s not enough time.
I find it hard to beleive that a for profit company is putting profit before the customers 😅
This is how the NHS will work when Wes has "reformed" it.
Slithy toad.
This fortnight's periodical 3 days late which is better than the previous one – one full week late. Never get a daily delivery now its three days at best. Still the CEO will be well paid
We have no letters for 7 days but see parcels being delivered daily.
No doubt the bosses are still being paid a huge salary another broken business
They couldn't deliver my socks took it back needed a photo 😅😅 well thTs crape would have gone through letterbox but no Rip
Royal Mail and the Post Office are entirely separate entities!
As someone who has worked for Royal Mail and Post office for the last seventeen years, I can state this.
Royal Mail has ALWAYS prioritised parcels at Xmas. And, have ALWAYS denied doing so. What is different this year is the Royal Mail has not got anywhere near their Christmas level of staffing. And won’t have. Due to their awful new starter contracts.
Additionally they were short of staff going into the busy period, many long term posties quit.
This year, instead of three or four mail collections a day from post offices by RM, many have fewer than in a normal day. Those RM sorting offices that are managing are being asked to send people to those that aren’t. Making both difficult to manage.
BTW, the idea to sell off Royal Mail was a Labour proposal. Peter mandelson and Gordon Brown wanted the money. Financial crash northern rock debt, etc.
Once they were booted out, it was easy for the Lib Dem’s in coalition to adopt the labour plan. The Lib Dem’s did a terrible job with the privatisation. Just awful. Which is why local post offices can now count 1 hour a week from a mobile van, as a fully open, and functioning local post office.
A few weeks ago I had two letters sent by second class post, where I was advised when they were posted. Each took more than 7 working days to reach me!
Royal Mail had nothing to do with the Horizon scandal, that’s the Post Office. Two different companies.
Did the Sunday Times finally watch the video of Darren Jones exposing this in committee back in January? Um, good work..?.. I guess.
This if it us true is an absolute disgrace….because quite apart from it being Christmas and people are posting cards at an astronomical postage cost …by prioritising parcels over letters ..people are awaiting confirmation of vital hospital appointments and important documentations …The Posr Office quangos need to get their house in order ..its been a less than satisfactory service for a long time now ..and people are turning to other avenues ..which will result in the PO going out of business …and it will serve them right.
Yeah those tend to be much more important
The board of royal mail have saddled it with a massive debt for vehicle electrification and has been investing in tbe more profitable parcel force to sell it off, leaving an unsustainable royal mail system.
It's time royal.mail letters was taken back into public hands.
Profit over service doesn't work
If people want their letters delivered faster, maybe they should pay for next day delivery. Of course the premium services are being prioritised, there's nothing wrong with that.
05:35 Streeting; Is he talking about these non medical professionals we are being conned with?
Oh wow! Reform the NHs to make it a digital service. How many billions have already been wasted in failed tech projects? And cut waiting lists? An urgent referral for knee surgery in 2020, still waiting and told I should expect to receive it in 3- 4 yrs. I sat in agony recently in my GP surgery while my doctor tried to arrange urgent tests at A&E: this highly trained professional spent an hour of his time trying to get through to the hospital on the phone. The only way to improve the NHS is to privatise it — get the political meddling out of it. Get the waste out by letting professionals establish their own arrangements in competition with other suppliers and let the public hold the politicians accountable for the pressure their other policies create — including escalating mental health demands underfunded social care budgets.
Ive sent christmas cards first class a week ago the People still havent recieved them ,so much 4 first class 😢

I am not surprised they don't have the staff, over the last decade or so I have noticed a massive decline in moral from the posties, they used to be happy people and now they seem to be chasing their tail and rushing to meet some sort of targets.
Postman should definitely get a pay rise, perhaps then they could afford to buy trousers. They seem to think they are clones of Daisy Duke.
