The Story of the Mediterranean Sky Shipwreck

After seeing photos of a rusting cruise liner partially capsized and half submerged, i’ve always wondered what the story was behind it. It’s a striking sight to see with this massive vessel long forgotten with much of it still in tact. Today i’m on a mission to discover that story! So join me today as we go over the illustrious career of this sleek ocean liner turned cruise ship and find out how it got here and was subsequently left completely abandoned.

  1. Awesome video. Apparently I drove past this wreck 4 times on my trips to Greece, but I never knew it was there. I'll definitely stop by the side of the road to take a look at it next time. I did visit the Dimitrios shipwreck near Githion, which you can just walk up to and touch the hull without your feet even getting wet.

  2. Its so sad to see these ships lined up and left. They look dejected and sad.
Not only are these ships left to rot but the damages done to our oceans and marine life by uncaring money moguls.

Back when these ships were left the furniture could have been sold or donated to shelters and thrift stores. It chaps my arse how freaking wasteful humans can be.

These ships have more soul than anything made today. Its a long lost craft and way to travel. 😢

  3. Now that I’m thinking, classic ocean liner style ships would be nice to see a comeback of. And no, (to me at least), Disney’s ships don’t count. I want something authentic and realistic, not just a modern themed vessel.

That’s like building a house that’s modern in all regards and decorating it to look like something from the Victorian era, as opposed to building a true Victorian house (not sure if the analogy works).

No offense to anyone who likes Disney’s ships, including you BSF.

    Titanic II would’ve been nice.

I think ships that had a closer resemblance would’ve been a nice novelty. Cruises for those who want partying and fun. Liners for those who want luxury and comfort.

Another novelty of an idea: Air cruises on zeppelins?

  4. I actually have seen this vessel myself, I took a trip to Greece with my best friend a couple years back, and I was fascinated with all the shipwrecks in this harbor, there are genuinely so many, this is definitely the most striking of them though, it was truly fascinating to see it in person and research it myself, I have a couple posts of the pictures I’ve taken on R/Shipwrecks, if anyone wants to check them out! Should be under Mediterranean Sky or City of York I kind of forget

  5. As someone that used to work for a cruise line on an old converted vessel based out of Greece. Used to always try and spot this one whenever we were near the bay.

The ship i served on is now tied up near athens up for sale or i think used in a safety training school. I do wonder what will happen to her
