It looks bigger than 44ft.
That vessel sure looks bigger than 44 feet.
Mick Dolman went onto be a senior MUA member.
It set sail from Prince of Wales Bay, where i live………
Before EPIRB I guess. For the non-non-nautical, non-non-Deadliest Catch people: An EPIRB is an electronic device that automatically sends out a distress call to the local Coastguard along with coordinates when it is exposed to a significant amount of water. This is the device you need because you sometimes don't have time to send out SOS yourself. The EPIRB let's more people live because they can focus on abandoning ship.
Think you got the size of the ship wrong.
So cool to see a video that's local to me on here and about a tragedy that not many people are aware of outside of tasmania.
44 meters long, not 44 feet
6:20mins Factual error – the ship was not โ13m or 44 feet longโ but in fact it was โ44m or 144 feet longโ.
Tough Men .๐
I've been subscribed to your channel for years by this point. you had 3 videos up. I loved your Dyatlov pass incident video, so I subscribed. you know what I'm not, right now? that's right. subscribed. YouTube has been unsubscribing people from various channels. Brandon Herrera's, Kentucky Ballistics', mostly guntuber channels. this time YT decided that I shouldn't be subscribed anymore to your channel. this should anger you. should anger everyone.
The vessel would be far bigger than 13 metres. Her beam would be around that length.
That little raft held 10 people ?
Whenever I get a horror uploader without an idiotic voice, I'm hyped. Its like winning a lottery…
En espaรฑol
I'm a Tasmanian and only heard about this a couple of years ago. If you're interested in hearing a really good podcast about this a guy named Richard Fidler did one with a crew member of the Blythe Star on that trip and from memory he said the list was caused by the load of fertilizer shifting in the hold. Great podcast, well worth a listen. Look for Richard Fidler conversations Blythe Star and you will find it. Great video by the way!
Some good had to git something
As scary as this story is. It is a testament to the human spirit and the perseverance to stay alive. These men have been to the depths of hell and made it back to tell the tale
Stop renaming ships! Such bad luck. ๐ฌ๐
Its length was 44 metres, not 44 feet. Look at the picture of it berthed and scale it to the people on the dock and you can see that it isn't 13 metres long.
The last sentence sums up every successful execution of a new law by a tragic event, very well said.
Captain Crookshank?
Really?
Lol.
That's nice that they had a funeral for some of them, now they now for sure who their real friends were.
There's an old seaman's saying that when you change a ship's name, you change it's fortune.
I accidentally found your channel at 4:30 this morning when my niece woke me up with her screaming. I can't believe I have to thank her for helping me find this channel lol.
better eat from the bodies some meat l guess in case walkers dont find help or and to give them energy to walk first
Rubber life raft would have been synthetic manufactured material ?
44 ft. ship?? You must mean 144 ft. And that still wouldn't be, a ship designation, but a 'boat' definition, instead.
There was another story about some men who survived a shipwreck, found land, and the island they found was overrun with poisonous snakes. Yay…we're safe! Uh, no, no we're not. ๐๐
I'm Tasmanian, and I had no idea about this!
A 50th Anniversary plaque was unveiled this week in Hobart. Mick Doleman was there and is the last remaining survivor.
Hey do the Rose-Noรซlle ,,
It was upside down a coupla months , washed back to New Zealand ,,horror indeed..
Thats why I stay on land…๐๐๐
The shorter or longer route? Always will be the shortest, even if the captain has final say, the owner will put money over safety, Everytime.
Fertiliser, diesel and beer…what could possibly go wrong? ๐๐๐
It was 144ft, not 44ft.
Too bad they couldn't get some beer onto the lifeboat. That could have replaced all the other provisions.
very interesting footage thanks for posting
Sorry to tell you this but that ship looks a shit load longer than 13 meters. more like 50 meters.
ex KNSM ship?
Wow! That was wild. Iโve watched many of your videos but for some reason this one hit me hardest. To be so close to home- yet having your comrades dying around you..I canโt imagine how hard that was for these sailors
I remember the Blythe Star vey well. For a few years, each time I drove past her anchorage in the River Yarra, I look at her with awe, as she was such a small vessel. Periodically; her berth would be empty that told me she was on another trip. Then on 12 October 1973, I learned Blythe Star was missing. God grant those three brave deceased crewman eternal rest, and maHIS perpetual light shine upon them. REQUIESCANT IN PACE K. SLOAN, J. EAGLES, AND K. JONES.
I wonder if the captain retired after that horror ordeal? ๐ฎ
Great coverage of this incident, Fascinating Horror. I had no idea how this was going to end.
Four days without food, anyone can do that.
Iรคm sure that ship is bigger than 13 meters. Welcome to metric system.
Why would you take a dangerous route??!
Like in all cases of common sense regulations coming too late, they are always written in the blood of those who could have benefitted the most.
Sounds like an excuse to me, should be rather easy to find stranded people around an island.
