The State of Ashes of Creation Phase 2

MMO Ashes of Creation recently entered Phase 2 of its alpha. In today’s video we discuss how the launch went and what to expect for the rest of phase 2. It has been a shaky start due to the timing, but we expect a lot of fixes and a huge January from Intrepid Studios whom has shown continuous improvement on this work in progress MMORPG.

  1. It feels like it's still Phase 1. Same exploiters exploiting. Server performance problems that had been getting a lot better have actually been worse thanks to the population overload that actually exacerbated the known flaws in the design. Bugs seem more prevalent than before (but that's just how it feels, data may say otherwise). So Phase 2 has been very disappointing for a Phase Launch. A lot of the player population will depend on how/what they do in terms of exploiter discipline. The exploit from the start has had a very real and all encompassing (in terms of systems) effect on Vyra. A lot of guild things are waiting for the changes before moving forward, so to speak. The broken node XP stuff messed up a lot of things too. Now all that being said, we know it was the holidays, etc. So I fully expect things to get a lot of dev attention once they are back to work. Intrepid has done a lot of good things every time so far, so I'll be giving them the benefit of the doubt. The game stuff will get fixed, no doubt. The only real doubt will be the cheater discipline. If he doesn't bring the hammer down on the cheaters just because they include PI testers, it will tell us all a TON and have a massive and far reaching affect on the player base. Steven has been amazing over this holiday week, so I'm cautiously keeping the Copium on a low flow setting 🙂

  2. I am enjoying the game for what it is, but my issue is that there is so much false advertising with this game it's really frustrating, gathering is not as shown in the live streams, crafting is neither, character models are trash, weathering system is complete garbage compared to advertisement, and now they expect us to grind another 150 hours for 0 new content

    P2 delivered no new classes
    No new weapons
    No new zones
No new races ( if you really think these new races are not just re coloured humans you are crazy ) dwarf looks meh but I guess it's okay
I understand that all of this is suppose to be in by the end of 02 but releasing the new phase with literally nothing is wild to me, there open development is just marketing manipulation imo

  3. Not expecting it to be played as a game right now but as a true test. I enjoy it but the node system is what frightens me from day 1 of them telling us about it keeps being somewhat confirmed the more i see. I think it will be very toxic and also you can truelly be on a bad server where your nodes suck while on another server you see a lot of good shit on that specific village f.e.

  4. Deleting characters will literally do nothing. You don't think these dudes have already laundered like thousands of gold and gear sets to non exploiting accounts? Of course they have. If all they get is a delete they'll be back to 25 within a week still controlling everything with I'll gotten money and gear. They need to be perma banned and invited to play a different game. These people are disgusting. POLAR and ENVEOUS guild members should all be banned whole sale.

  5. I’ve been enjoying phase 2 despite all the current issues. Vyra did hit very high toxicity and it definitely came from the Resna guilds that migrated. Training mobs through other grind groups is not peak PvP but they seem to think it’s a flex. The silver lining for me is that it’s made getting to 25 with some decent gear even more satisfying. The new dungeon is pretty cool when Bellowsmasher isn’t bugged out and camping at the entrance area making it annoying to get past. The marketplace was a good addition too as it’s made acquiring gear and resources you might have had trouble getting a bit easier. Freeholds are a let down for now but at least a placeholder is live. It’s a bit rough but still loving being a glorious tester!

  6. As a security engineer, this is not a surprise. Corporate America does not care about security unless they get fined. Gaming companies are even worse because they just hope they get enough money coming in to keep people from quitting because of all of the cheats. They don't even have to deal with regulations. It's a cat and mouse game with exploiters considering the money involved in bots and everything else and then you have the "0-day" cheats that everyone uses to get ahead quickly in game that are fixed relatively quick. Gaming companies cringe at the myriad of cloud charges let alone the thought of having to pay an application security developer at a $150-160K starting salary for a senior level guy (because you don't hire anyone green for this type of work). Sad but true and it will never change.

  7. This is a great telling of whats going on, imma just send people here when they ask about P2 lol. The situation with Ryve is crazy too, id be pissed. Wtf is wrong with people…

  8. I haven't been able to play P2 yet, not for lack of trying. I lose connection to server every time I try to connect. No amount of repairing or reinstalling has worked. Feels bad.

  9. I think it was a mistake to release this before the holidays. Too many people could get online, while too many devs were offline, and that's a horrible combo.

Releasing P2 in January woulda gone way smoother.

  10. Yet another example why open world pvp games fail. Seriously, get rid of the entire convoluted flagging system in this game.
Replace it with a simpler pvp area system. You enter the area and are automatically flagged for pvp. About 80% of the world should be made of pvp areas.
The other 20% can be pure pve with nodes and resources that are limited to level 2 or 3.

It's a much simpler system to program and less exploitable. I'm not saying it is exploit proof, but it's much easier to deal with.

  11. I'm hoping on launch there will be an RP server. It seems to me the more toxic elements seem to gravitate towards wherever the biggest streamers are. So maybe that will give a place for some of us to go and actually have a fun and positive experience.
Guess I'm just old but imo one should not say anything to another person in game you would not be willing to say in person.
God knows there's already enough hate in the real world without having to deal with it in a setting that's supposed to be fun.

  12. Sup Nyce. May not be a popular opinion, but I see training mobs to get a grind spot the same way as firing a red shell in Mario kart. It’s part of the game and part of the way you push people out of a spot.
It’s about tactics and strategy. If your team can handle the pulled mobs and theirs can’t, you earned the spot.

If you try to solo pull mobs, a smart and coordinated team won’t get trained on, the can cc u and let the trained mobs kill you and leash back.

If both teams wipe, the first team to repair loses the spot.

People are getting too emotional about this and not tactical/strategic enough. There are pros and cons to each method used to win a spot. I wrote up a big “how to win a spot” document for Axiom just yesterday. Nothing about ethics or morality, just a pros and cons of different methods I have learned when competing for the best spots in the game.

  13. I could be wrong, but if i remember correctly last time there was mass exploiting that was intentional and harmful to the game they kicked them out of alpha. First day playing phase 2, and its way smoother than its ever been, and lynneth seems pretty chill right now. Also way more lively, 7am east coast and running into packs of players everywhere.

  14. The mob leash griefing is the worse thing currently in this phase. Sol deus on EU have been griefing for hours on end. they're all level 25 against level 10-20 and they hardly flag unless a caravan is involved.

  15. The phase 2 start was rushed and poorly thought out. The server pruning I understand as they want to test server support..but it really killed any enthusiasm I had for playing. I'm waiting for another server to get added , or at least more content. The lack of promised features for launch of phase 2, when it was shown a few days before, felt very disingenuous to me. Honestly the open dev was always going to bite Intrepid in the ass a bit but im hopeful the state of the alpha will be fixed on the 6th and Ill feel drawn back into the game.

  16. 1:21 Everyone cares about Justice, not necessarily the law. You seem like those black pill butthurt guys.

All the discussion surrounding Luigi has nothing to do with his appearance. Jesus fucking Christ, what an incel comment.

  17. I'm not very happy with the way the game exists now. Too many exploiters, too many mob trainers, bad respawn rates and too much griefing. Hopefulyl that will alter eventually. I think there's been a lot of good conversation about areas more balance is needed and ideas for that. There's way too much xp debt and too many bugs around said debt. The player toxicity and the lack of recourse for lowbies vs said griefers is not fun. I am giving props on the server meshing and capacity. I've had very few huge crashes but there's a lot of silent crashing. I'd really like so direction from Interpid on what they are looking for test wise, because I don't actually expect, "just playing the game" is a feasible thing to ask. So much is unsurprisingly incomplete that actual objectives might help those of us who don't spend out time griefing and exploiting to give them better and more useful information.

  18. If the game can’t take the magic of classic wow or classic final fantasy 11 and amplify it into something exponentially better it’s just going to fail. I’ve suspected that’s the case for a long time. To make something great it takes sacrifice and iron fist leadership. The whole AOC development team sits at home and pretends to work for years.

  19. Narc quitting is probably the most shocking news. The guy was making content when the game wasn't even out for years. And now the game finally releases and he can actually make realistic content, he decides to quit? What on earth happened these past few months of alpha LMAO

  20. Intrepid will never tell us concurrent player numbers. It would shock people too much to see how FEW people are actually playing; especially in retaining players after 1 week.
