The Spookiest Legends from Every State – Extended Cut

We’ve covered this topic more than once over the years, so here’s all our coverage combined into one extended video!

Every area of the world has its own stories passed down through the ages, twisted by decades of retelling and reimagining. While America may not have had as long a time as some other countries to build their mythology, each state has its own strange myths.

  1. Where are y’all getting these stories from? Jean Lafitte, Marie Laveau, Evangeline, Beauregard Parish jail, Angola prison, and all y’all could come up with for Louisiana was scary inbred little people living in the woods?

  2. Yeah, I've heard of the Lake Mendota Monster, but c'mon, Grunge, there's way better legends in wisconsin, one of which was mentioned in "American Gods" and shared with Illinois (its a tri-state ancient indigenous mystery of the Thunderbirds), there's the 'bell' witch – I don't remember what she was called, but she would torture teenagers off Lake Michigan (by the Seven Bridges), there's the beast of the Kettle Moraine – everybody knows that one's for real, they say its a werewolf type creature. There's a haunted road with 'ghost lights', somewhere up north – there's a whole bucket of options way creepier, including the Lake Michigan 'triangle' albeit shared with other states, obviously. Anybody else got better ghost stories? Re-do it, Fix Wisconsin legends. (But don't do the Slender man, we're a bit sore about that tragedy, since it became not a legend)
