The Spirit of the Maccabees in Our Times – SSPX Sermons

The books of Maccabees serves as an inspiration for Catholics today. At a time when the religion of God was being persecuted and there was a strong temptation to compromise with the powers of that day, there rose up those who refused to tarnish the faith of their ancestors and heroically defended their loyalty to God against the encroachment of paganism.

  1. Protestant churches miss so much regarding the books they took out of the Bible. Message is to never, ever give up or compromise your faith. Stand strong even when you experience horrible persecution. Think of Hannah and her sons in the Book of Maccabees.😒

  2. Thank you for your sermon, Father. It could very easily at some future date be the story of the Society of St. Pius X. The Maccabees call their faith, "the Law", and in our time we call it, "Tradition". If it weren't for the Maccabees, the Hebrew Faith and tradition may have been annihilated. Without Archbishop Lefebvre and the SSPX, the Faith of our Fathers and the Doctors of the Church might also be at risk of annihilation.

As Christ Our Lord showed us by His example, the example that was repeated over and over again in the Martyrology, in how Christ expects us to fight our battle for souls, including our own as the Sacrifice of the Mass shows us, we should do it in an unbloody fashion. We also see in Christ's Resurrection and Ascension into Heaven what the spoils of this battle for souls really are, and there is nothing earthly about them. Our goal is Heaven. It is the Kingdom of God's Will in Heaven.

If our battle is to be "manly", then that should be following the example of the "Man-God", Jesus Christ, and be fought in a spiritual manner.

Unlike the new synodal religion, our battle must be to defend Christ and the Faith that He gave us and not to reinvent the Faith so that it is in 'our' image and likeness and not God's; and our motto should be with St. Paul in 2 Timothy 4 verses 7 and 8:
(V7) "I have fought a good fight," (Remember, there is none good but God… Mark 10:18) "I have finished my course, I HAVE KEPT THE FAITH.
(V8) "As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice," (Sanctifying Grace) "which the Lord the Just Judge will render to me in that day: and not only to me, but to them also that love His coming…"

  3. This is one of my favorite books in the Bible. As a mother, this book always tears at my heart strings. She is the epitome of a mother in the Old Testament. She chooses eternal life for her sons, not worldly things.

  4. Mattathias retreated to the mountains with his sons, just as Archbishop Lefebvre retreated to the mountains with his spiritual sons.
There was a second altar set up for the new rite in the Temple against the true altar, just as the Novus Ordo table was set up against the true altar in Catholic Churches.

  5. I like these SSPX sermons. I listen often. I agree with much, however these words are judaising. This battle attitude looks for earthly victory. Too much faith in 'law'. Remember what Jesus said about this. I want the traditional Mass, the Latin Mass to be allowed and continue.Β
It is the core and root of Tradition, but using the Maccabees as an example for Catholics today?Β
I guarantee many so-called novus ordo Catholics are going to heaven. To take this to the step of declaring the Church is the same as the Syrian army of that day is wrong. Hold on in this storm from the Vatican, but don't start calling Rome the pagan enemy and you are the only true Church. This is a mistake. You risk judaising. I take no side in this fight because I believe we need the Latin Mass in the Roman Church and the small army of faithful will triumph in the Church Christ started for us here on earth eventually.Β
His Church IS the Roman Catholic Church.Β
    Don't break. Stay strong.
