great overview video over warhammer fantasy, even though guy is hella biased (as you should be in WH fantasy). oh also he forgot that the rats also have motorbikes and anti-material rifles.
He hates Bretonnia by his own admission, so he was joking about a lot of the stuff he said about them.

In addition I'd really recommend his Video "40k Isn't THAT Overpowered" it gives a nice humorous overview of powerlevels between universes, with a real nice conclusion.

In my opinion most of the factions in Warhammer fantasy are really interesting even the ones I don't like, but the Skaven are probably the most fun to dive into as they are so bonkers
Just play your Total War Warhammer game, recommend getting the 3rd one only for now and you will have more grasp on what kind of world the Fantasy is. It's pretty good introduction through the game to this lore as there are tons to learn too if you want to read inside the game the lore.

Pancreas no work is lying to us when he says the war of vengeance/of the beard had no winner. Their is a clear winner in fact. He only says their is no winner because he is an knife-ear simp. The dwarfs won an decicive victory. All elfen colonys in the old world were destroyed except Athel Loren which would become the wood elfs. The war if vengeance as the dwarfs call it was instigated by Malekith but in the end, that it happend was to 100% the High elfs fault. Their king at the time Caledir the II. Is probably the dumbest person in all of warhammer fantasy. The first storm if chaos is not that long gone and they just fought a brutal civil war against Malekith and what would alter become the Druchi (the dark ones in elf language). Than the dwarfs their only allys left ask them why the hell guys dressed like high elfs attacj their ships and trading routes and Caledor the II. Answers with I dont care about you but you should pay me the rightfull Phoenix King respect without any reason. High King Gotrek Starbreaker, king of all dwarfenkind is viewd as one of their greatest heros ans one of the most honorable and benevolent high kings by dwarfen standarts meaning he didn't immediatly start a war after beeing insulted. He send a cousin of his as his personal envoy with the message again demanding reperations for the dwarfen lives lost due to seemingly elfish hands. The dwarfs didn't fully know about the elf civil war and fractering into high and dark elfs because the high elfs were to arrogant to acknolege such a thing. Now Caledor the II would commit maybe the greatest failure in the history of elfenkind after Aenerion taking morathi as his second wive although if you know the entire story it is more understandable. Caledor orders to shave the envoys beard which is the greatest insult a dwarf couls receive and gives him the message. "IF THE HIGH KING WANTS REPERATIONS THAN HE SHALL COME TO ULTHUAN KNEEL BEFORE ME AND BEG FOR IT AS THE BEGGER HE IS". Remember that quote. This was the greatest grudge ever written into the great book of grudges. Caledor had not just insulted the cousin of the high king, he had not just insulted the high king he had insulted all of dwarfenkind at once. This meant war and all of dwarfenkind went to war. Their army crusshed the high elf forces in teh old world they burned down colonys they slaughterd hundreds of thousands of elfs. In return the elfen armys ariving in the old world were unable to conquer even one single Karak (karaks are basicly dwarfen citys. They are almost impregnable fortresses that can hold out for years) the elfs lost almolst every major battle and at the 17 battle of Tor Allesi the war was decided. In a titanic battle where the unified armys of all dwarfenkind and all high elfenkind fought against each other the elfs were crushed and driven into the see. The apex of the battle was a duel between Gotrek Starbreaker and Caledor the II. Gotrek shatterd the Phoenix Kings sword and spear and the supposed king lay infront of gotrek and begged for mercy. Starbreaker was mearly disgusted by his enemys cowardes and lack of backbone and smashed his head in with his warhammer. The Phoenix crown worn by caldeor and fallen to the ground as he begged was taken by Gotrek as reperation for the insult. All the armor the hundreds of thousands of dead elfen warriors had worn were melted down and turned into jewelry and wergold, the dwarfen currency and given to the dwarfen familys who lost family memebers during the war. The King of Karak Varn recieved wergold made out of the armor of the legendary dragonprincess, as he had lost brother, son and cousin during the war. The Phoenix crown however remains untouched, it remains in the halls of Karaz-A-Karak the dwarfen capital to this day as a final insult. When ever over the thousands of years since then when the elfs have lost enough arrogance to send envoys to get it back the dwarfs only answer with a direct quote from Caledor the second.
"IF YOU WNAT THIS CROWN THAN YOUR PHOENIX KING SHALL COME TO THE HALLS OF KARAZ-A-KARAK AND HE SHALL BEG AS THE BEGGER THAT HE IS". As you see the war of vengeance has a clear winner.
Total war warhammer is basically one game with a bunch of dlc, do okay as every faction and legendary lord you need to but everything, including warhammer 1 and 2 and all those dlcs
If you want to learn more in-depth stuff about Warhammer Fantasy, I recommend to watch the Lorebeards podcast. Andy Law has worked at several Warhammer fantasy projects so he not only talks about what is in the books, but also whhere the inspiration came from and "how would this story have been continued, if GW decided to publish a follow-up" and such.
Beastmen, Skaven, and Lizardmen are my favorites
Warhammer Fantasy is my favorite fantasy setting. It's equal parts depressing, goofy, grim, and heartwarming. Most of the world is hanging on by their fingers against the numerous and terrifying threats this world has but hang on it does and in a way that inspires you. It is a world where a plot that would end everything is foiled by a band of local heroes who after getting their reward party so hard they are thrown in jail after and lose all their earnings in court fees, bribes, and fines. It is a place where a vampire might decide he wants to be Emperor and all the other electors are like "No, we aren't even going to consider the ramifications of an undying emperor and what that would do to the legal code, not happening". Its people maybe stubborn, set in their ways, and prejudice others on sight but it's also a place where great strides in culture, law, and technology are constantly being undertaken and pushed forward by the natural ambition every race in Warhammer Fantasy shows.
The Skaven are basically the imperium in 40k
For anyone starting totalwar warhammer 3! I started on 2 but didn't get too far before 3 came out, I do like 3 but there where a few things better in 2, like dilpomacy in 2 is stupid but fun, where as 3 everyone will ask for stupidly large amounts of money for a simple Non-aggrestion pact. But Every faction (and more obvs) is in 3 and I would recomend you play it on the defualt settings first. Just enjoy it đ

I would also recommend a few other channels such as: âThe Book of Choyerâ if you want vids that tackle surface level lore on different factions or topics in a more in game cinematic style, the âWizards and Warriorsâ if you want to get a sort of lore documentary of famous characters/battles/ events that happened in the lore, and finally the âLorebeards podcastâ once you have a more complete understanding of the lore of Warhammer, because the podcast delves deeper into lore subjects than most. Even ones that arenât talked about as much or popular but often misunderstood in some way etc.
You forgot one important thing in your opening. To get the whole experience, you still have to play the table top game. Find a store and ask someone to teach you how to play 40K.

Bears noting, the Total War games are 4X. It's light 4X with an RTS emphasis, but if that term doesn't mean anything to you, you may be in for a nasty shock. Imagine Civilization mixed with Axies and Allies, and you might be somewhere in the ballpark of what that it.
Anyone looking for an accessible Warhammer Fantasy game may want to try Vermintide instead. It's Left 4 Dead with some RPG elements, and there's even PvP multiplayer where you can play as the Skaven. The PvP's not well-balanced, or so I've heard, but it's there. Also, despite Darktide being out, Vermintide 2 is still getting new content.
