In 1932, the British Air Ministry was faced with a dilemma! It was either they constructed a bomber that could carry a heavy load over a longer range or constructed one with a smaller load and range but faster. To get the best of both worlds, the Hampden came to life. In all, it was in a different class of its own. Designed with a high priority placed on climb rate and speed, the Hampden excelled! Alas, such performances had to come with some drawbacks. Some sacrifices ultimately came back to haunt this peculiar aircraft!
