  1. I’m old enough to remember when vampire cults became a thing. I still remember sitting by myself at the young age of 20 in a hallway with a panic button. I was doing an internship in the DA’s office and the vampire cult leader in The area was going on trial. He was a small man but scary as hell! Black eyes to go along with his black hair dye job. I spent 8 hours a day for over a week in that hallway sitting in my chair waiting for them to bring him back and forth through that hallway with that panic button to push in case someone got in to either kill him or break him out. It still gives me the creeps thinking about it. Now my 13 year old is in love with Edward Cullen.

  3. Amazing episode as always!! ❤️

I wanted to mention Dracula is also based off of Vlad III Dracula, also known as Vlad the Impaler. Origins lie with the Turks who called him the Prince Impaler due to his extremely brutal form of execution.

This has fascinating history but be warned it’s extreme!

  4. I'm not gonna lie. I scrolled passed this video a couple times today, because I've never been super into vampires. But I so thoroughly enjoy how you have started doing these different kind of cases and I do feel a bit burnt out on 'regular true crime' . All that to say I am so glad I clicked finally! I always learn something new when you do these kind of historical cases. ❤ you just keep getting better and better Payton! I'm happy that you decided to follow your heart and change things up at the beginning of the year ❤

Side note- I was supposed to read Dracula, the original by Bram Stoker, in my senior year of high school but I literally couldn't understand what the hell I had just read. So the teacher said we didn't have to read it anymore 😂😂

  5. Every time I hear stories like this one, I tell myself it only takes one of those legends & myths to make the whole thing true…if one ghost story or in this case vampire story is true doesn't that mean they truly exist or existed. This episode got out with the most perfect timing, my boyfriend and I just rewatched Twilight not so long ago hahah. Thank you so much for all this content Payton, love watching you here on your podcast but also listening to you and your husband on MWMH. Keep up the amazing work!! Sending you all my love and support from Canada <3

  6. 13:00 I wonder what language and theory they actually used instead of the idea of “infection,” since the theory hadn’t been developed yet. Hell, public health as a practice was still a hundred years off.
