how was it not completely flooded during the hurricane and other floods where even cars on the street were washed away.. ?
Is this the old Big Tunnel project?
I'm from the N side of Chicago. Two things here bother me;
If it's for flooding, what's the excuse in the hundreds of other deep tunnel projects all over the world including desert and mountain areas
How did they complete the opening to the tunnels at Bunker Hill without making any mess? No dust, no dirt tire tracks out, nothing. One day there appeared an enormous steel cover and a fence around it. The end.
I don't think it has anything to do with flooding, especially since flooding got worse after it was built.
Benefits? I lived there! NONE we can measure. All your listed benefits have nothing to do with it.
Fighting Climate change, what a farce. Same people telling you this are starting wars all over the world which is actually destroying the planet and human life. All these are “DUMBS” which are deep underground military bases. These black projects consume 25% of our gdp and hidden from accounting.
None of these are for us Plebs. They have Mach 2 Leviton trains that go coast to coast. Wake up people
wow tooooooo much climate change carbon tax proaganda bulll shit
I wonder what the quantity of greenhouse gas has been created since start of the construction of the tunnel, from the mining for and manufacturing of the machines, tools, fuel, trucking, etc., compared to what is expected to be saved. I'd like to see the assumptions behind the forecast.
Channel 11 already went over this..
The rain garden idea the MWRD guy talked about has many extreme negatives !! In Kennilworth IL the rain garden debacle was designed where the utilities are buried since there is
communication cables. Bad Bad Bad idea. Also to build this debacle
Is one of them new species of fish the Asian carp?
The sheetmetal company my father worked for had one of the contracts on this project and he worked in those tunnels for several months. I still have a chunk of limestone he brought home for me with the depth it was chiseled from written on it. 346 feet deep (or something like that).
And Chicago and its suburbs still suffer massive flooding today..
Just move out of large cities. Problems solved.
The Deep Tunnel was never a secret.
Everyone in Chicago knows about this tunnel. It has been openly talked about for decades.
Interesting
It was never a secret, it's been on the news since the start of the construction.
Let me summarize. A massive city was built with poor drainage infrastructure a little higher than a swamp, exacerbated by the significantly reduced ground absorption caused by large steel buildings and solid surface roads. Its been a problem for decades. It was polluting lake Michigan, and since they live there, chicago politicians came up with an elaborate plan to instead reverse rivers and send the pollutted water downstate where all the dirt bags live. Thus causing more environmental issues. So now after being called out on it, they're using what are likely state dollars collected from downstate residents, and suburbs, to create a massive underground sewer system with large reservoirs.
This channel is claiming that its a good idea now because of climate change. When the climate really always changes, and always has. When really its just trying to fix years of Chicago doing what it does best, poor management of infrastructure, screwing downstate residents, and paying their construction worker cronies davis bacon style wages. Its a perfect project. Next, the big dig.
All the homes closest to the tunnel by my house all have flood control systems at the homeowners expense because, even though they are feet away from a shaft, still flood. It's easy enough to check, just find a shaft and then look for permits for the costly remedy in nearby homes.
imagine spending billions on 'climate' change
More climate alarmist clickbait. Nice job dimwits!
