  1. Most storm chasers will stay the HELL away from nighttime tornadoes, except those brave souls that spot for the weather service, those fool enough to try, and those caught in the right place at the EXACT wrong time. I don't need my usual three paragraphs to tell you that violent nighttime tornadoes scare the ever-loving shit out of me. They are even more dangerous than rain-wrapped wedges; they hit when a lot of people may be asleep or not at alert.

You chase a tornado like that at night, you are playing dice with death. And he damn near came up snake-eyes. Notice at 15:52 or so – the lightning flashes transition to power flashes, The tornado is RIGHT THERE and it's 100% invisible. But you can SEE an inflow jet pointing right to it at about 16:00. He did everything he could have wrong and somehow still managed to avoid getting eaten by this thing.

  2. You failed to mention that at the 2 hour and 12-minute mark of the live stream, he stopped to talk to somebody at a fork in the road, he stopped to talk to somebody for about two minutes, at that time it seems trivial, but I think he stopping to talk to that person for that briefness of time, might of save him from getting seriously hurt or the tornado ending him.

  3. I watch a lot of tornado videos on YouTube
Due to impatience I probably fast forwarded or gave up on this one at some point
I’m really glad I watched this after you broke it down and narrated it. Easily one of the scariest tornado videos of the hundreds or more I’ve watched. Chasing with limited visibility would be terrifying in the daylight.
You did a hell of a job providing me with nightmare fuel

  4. That night was horrible. I live a mile from woodland mills. That beast cycled right over my house. It really messes with your head after something like that spares you, but then destroys the life of people close to you. I watched the tornado track all the way to my town from Arkansas on the tv. The power went out and i was in the closet with my 4 yr old daughter bracing for the worst. Then silence. It was crazy. The really sad thing is Mayfield had about an hour of lead time. Those people in the candle factory should have been sent home after the first tornado tornado warning a few hours earlier. We knew it was going to be a bad night.

  5. Not so fun fact, here in Kentucky(and Tennessee alike) we get a lot more nocturnal tornadoes than any other state, even states that get more tornadoes than us. And no one knows exactly why, but it definitely seems like more than coincidence. So many notable tornadoes across KY and TN have been nocturnal.

  8. I live about 15 miles from Mayfield. My dad works at the hospital there. It was absolutely devastating. Even someone in our neighborhood had a tree fall through their house and we were 15 minutes out from the tornado.
