The Hells Angels were the most infamous motorcycle club of the 20th century, and the organization is still kicking to this day. So fascinating was the organization to members of conventional society that it has become the blueprint of the “biker gang” trope in pop culture. But the club is very much a reality all its own, with rules and history that departs from the Hollywood myth. Of course, Hells Angels’ reputation didn’t appear out of nowhere, and there is some reality to the stereotypes that have emerged over the years. We’ll try to separate the reality from the reputation. These are the rules every Hells Angel has to follow.

In late 2022, I met my first ever Hell's Angel in a market in Maryland. I'd always pictured them in dusty towns in the mid-west for some reason. Up to then I thought Hells Angels were all racists and criminals… this guy was more like me – see no color – just people. I asked questions, he was kind and respectful (maybe cos' I'm old, but probably cos' he's just a very nice man), and I shook his hand. Jeez, I felt like I'd met a movie star! Had I been younger, I would've asked for a picture but being old, I'm not into to taking photos (most of the time I don't even carry that cellphone contraption 📱😆😆or do social media, etc. So I agree with those that commented that many Hells Angels are just regular people who like to ride.

I was in a relationship with a hells angel prior to him becoming one. He was and is a sociopath so he made the right choice with his life in being in a bully-crime gang group.

It started with a bunch of hero’s from WW2. A lot of misguided guys that that the war missed up. I can’t imagine what they saw in their young life. The guys today is about drugs and prostitution with no respect for rules in normal societies. I feel sorry for them.

I know a guy that got up to the prospect level but decided it wasn’t for him. He is a tough little guy and you definitely don’t want to mess with him, but he is all right. He said the Angels always ride at 81 mph for a specific reason but I’m not sure I believe him.
