The Ruins of Sol – IXION (Part 2)

Earth is gone. Authorized by DOLOS AEC, the Tiqqun space station represents humanity’s best hope for survival amongst the stars. As administrator, it’s my responsibility to ensure the survival of the last vestiges of humanity and find them a new home. But with the station falling apart, social unrest sweeping the crew, and unfamiliar phenomena threatening the ship… that might just be a tall order.

  1. I was so glad when I heard you say you weren’t sure which choice to make (re the moon destruction) because I often miss the opportunity to feel like I’m experiencing the game with you vs watching you play a game you’ve already researched and know.

That said, I struggled through way too long with not enough tech points being generated so I could have benefited from your research and knowledge!! 😅

  2. I think the reason why people find this game to be quite difficult is because all the things that logicly make sense, like keeping your space station in tip-top shape and opening more rooms on your space station, actively seem to hurt you rather than help you

  3. Keep it up Lord Pravus! Human kind needs you to lead them to their new home, However with that meaning of self-similar space will reveal the pattern, I am wondering if it's an unknown Anamoly?

Either way I love watching you explain things to the point.

  4. For Venus the difference between dismantle and repair is dismantle gives you 15 polymers right away. Repair gives 10 polymers each production cycle for 3 cycles, so 30 total.
So for 10 alloy and some patience you get 15 more polymers, a good deal imho.

  5. For tier 2 science unlocks you have to have researched every tier 2 science.
So far (I'm only on Chapter 2) every tier also has a story driven item so you can't unlock things until you reach story objectives, which is annoying.
Also all events are scripted, there is no RNG. Once you beat the game you are basically done with it, as nothing but your choices will be different in a second playthrough.

  6. Pretty good strategies so far. I will say that you have to unlock every tech in the previous tier to unlock the next. Tier 2 is the next ring out, tier 3 is 2 more rings past that I believe. There are a lot of tier 2 upgrades in tier 1 stuff though, especially useful in the insect farms, lab and ships

  7. i think the last option in the mars base gives a total of 17 polymer upfront and 10 polymers every 10 cycles. i like upgrading solar panels a bit mor ethan i probably should so i like polymers.

  8. Interesting that the mechanics actually seem to prey on those who try to keep all their resources, like health, topped off at all times, if your not reading the fine print.

Frankly, I'm less of a fan of "learn from your mistakes" when those mistakes are due to "traps"; elements of the game that cause an increase in difficulty or complications that you likely couldn't have reasonably foreseen because those elements aren't made clear until after you've made an irreversible decision. Yes, you know not to do that next time, but it can feel really cheap to have a run end not because you miscalculated, but because unanticipated consequences beat you over the head after the fact. Makes it feel less like a learning moment and more the designers going "gotcha!" as a showcase for the "difficulty" of the game.

I do wonder though if you're on a soft timer for resources in the galaxy to find, or if new pockets of resources "spawn" periodically such that you can't technically run out if you take to long, so long as your diligent in sending probes and efficient in managing your mining and cargo ships.

The "Echo of the Future", with very distinctive capitalization, sounds rather ominous.

  9. If you restart the assembly line on the Venus, it produces 10 polymers every 10 cycles 3 times, so it ends up giving you a total of 30 polymers. I'd say that's worth 10 alloys and an extra 2 days. But the choice is up to you.

  11. A lil Tips for lord Pravus, Battery doesn't need Road to be functional.. It only need road to build it, after that u can remove the roads connected to it and build more battery… 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  12. @Pravus i've found if i've set up well enough in the prologue and built and researched enough opening up the 2nd sector is actually beneficial, basically every time you fail 1 of the worker missions the crew get a little bit more upset with you and can lead to trust bombing your ship, which can lead to all sorts of wonderful death spirals, so just be careful on which missions you deny

  13. I find it weird the way you say "Protagoras", because this name is pretty similar to greek math phylosopher "Pitagoras" and usually the strong sillabe is the third to last (PiTAgoras). I don't know if it makes sense to you guys, but to me it does.

  14. While there are some nice moments in IXION, it is the biggest grind since your standard MMOs. Story is OK, but mid to late game when you create a more or less self-sufficient ship, it is just a time sink. For 3 chapters, I didn't even bother with resources, I was just waiting for story bits to unravel as I send ships all over the place, maxed out on resources, research… it is just a waiting game in the second half, which lasts for HOURS.

  15. Watching your first video influenced me to buy. I've put a lot of hours into it, and genuinely enjoy most of it. As a word of warning, however, I've encountered a bug that keeps me failing the game. Despite having plenty of food and a mess hall fully upgraded, my citizens in the sector won't eat and are dying en masse. PC Gamers's reviewer encountered similar bugs. Just a heads up.
