How great that they forensically dismantled it to find the problems!

Love the font!

strangely no mention of Ronan's Point's sister towers. I may be wrong about this but i believe one of them may even still be in use today – heavily refurbished of course – maybe somebody could clarify this? Anybody who travels on the A13 regularly as I do will know the block concerned. As an aside my father was a scrap crane operator at Thomas W Ward's in Silvertown & he was a witness to the immediate aftermath of the explosion as he started work around 7am. I remember him telling me & it was all over the news of course, i was nearly 8 years old at the time & we lived about 3 or so miles away.
Hated that birthing graphic, also had me laughing my ass off i wasn't expecting that
Amazing… instead of Victoria slums they created modern ugly high rise slums!
I always wondered why they thought the term brutalist would somehow create nice properties. When was brutalism ever a positive word?
So y'all had your own Pruitt-Igoe and Cabrini Green, too (when it comes to crime, I mean)
Have you ever done a video on the guy who drank radium?
Quarry Hill flats in Leeds. Revolutionary when constructed but ultimately the same sectional concrete rubbish. The facilities were far ahead of their time.
Please do Yarmouth suspension bridge.
It's a real shame we got stuff like this so badly wrong in Britain when nowadays high density social housing is needed more than ever and the housing companies only seem to want to erase all greenbelt land just to make luxury houses no-one can afford…
The decision makers were happy for tower block lifestyles so long as they didn't have to live in them. It's the same with mass immigration, which the decision makers support provided they don't have to live next to them.
This is an excellent video!
My favourite part was that not only was the woman who lit the match not killed, but neither was her cooker. She took it to her new apartment after this.
What I’d like to know is if the LPS system is still good and safe if built correctly, or if it’s more like pal-kal construction in Israel which is supposedly very dangerous.
Britain is the king for building rubbish apartments, the rest of the world does beautiful glass and aluminium buildings with facilities inside including shops and a gym and saunas…The UK is the 3rd world for sure. Even the Philippines have better housing. Why could not the UK pick up the phone call Philippines and ask them how to make a decent buiding
Plainly Difficult floor reveal confirmed
The visual humour in this episode was absolutely hilarious!
Silverstein properties?
Here in Australia we have these tower blocks which were built after WW2 in the inner city of Melbourne. Must have copied the design from England
When they started building these homes the country was lawful under a Christian banner. Unlike today full of pagan God's ie Islam and Buddhism, loaded with crime and disorder.
Wait…this wasn’t in China?
Being a French name, Camus is probably pronounced more like /kaˈmu͜w/ "ka-MOO",rather than KAY-mus
How can you say that these building are ugly? I think this is just a different form of beauty – modernist architecture. Very simple yet elegant. Moreover, there are thousands of such buildings in many European countries: Germany, Poland, Scandinavia, France &c and after many years of use they still provide good accomodation for millions of people. In central Europe we have whole estates made of such blocks of flats and they have nothing to do with crime… Instead, people nowadays discover how well they were planned.
Nothing shouts utopian futurism like faceless commblock brutalism
There is a very good documentary about the issues with post war housing in the UK called :
Inquiry. The Great British Housing Disaster (Adam Curtis, 1984)
This can be found on You Tube
Sounds like a case of "lets go with the cheapest of the cheapest options, what could go wrong?"
For heaven’s sake. Use past tense. It happened in 1968.
