Duty and honor and country and GOD
Speaking to vets, it seems that the Vietnam experience was pre-1970 and post-1970. Until 1970, morale and commitment to duty was high. After 1970, guys just wanted to get out.
The chaplain part was good.
Relating to an earlier war, WW1, it was said that there were no atheists in the trenches.
