Have we been seeing hints at the return of the classic team up of Knuckles and the rest of the Chaotix? At the very least, we got the echidna on the scene with the modern detective agency in IDW. Also we have a rabbit dinner party to go to.

  1. I still think that if the Rogues ever appear in a new game or show, just direct their VAs to imitate the Real-Time Fandubs voices. Those voices are genuinely perfect for them and I'd love if some of their characterization (albeit greatly toned down for all ages) from the dubs were carried over too.

  2. I love this story with how the villains acted and especially how Vanilla was about to up the age rating and make two skunks vanish from the series… Got to love how those eyes focused on them then glanced at her guests and she turns back to friendly mommy.

The skunks survived what would have been an interesting mystery encounter.

  3. 4:47 since Nick commented on it, I can at least confirm โ€œyes, by technicalityโ€. Those two characters are, from tallest to shortest, Stiletto the Fox and Piccola the Cat. Theyโ€™re background OCs belonging to the main penciler for Relic Robbing Rumble, Mauro Fonseca, and yeah, theyโ€™re references to Touhou (I say technicality, since Mauro didnโ€™t exactly deny it when someone asked on Twitter). The two actually debut in #64 and show up twice if you look carefully.

Theyโ€™re just simple characters that show up in the background like a majority of other characters that were drawn by the IDW team, to help make scenes feel more alive aside from the main Sonic cast. Heck, Lanolin was once part of this cast of characters back in her, and the comicโ€™s, early days as many may know.

  4. Iโ€™m glad that we get to see a cream and vanillaโ€™s story in idw. I hope we can get more with them in later comics, plus I think the cream story help subconsciously promote Sonic Dream Team (Apple Arcade) since sheโ€™s playable again and definitely a key player in the story there.

  5. The Dinner at Cream's story actually was the more fun one to me in this pair of issues. I especially love how Vanilla went full anime rage when she saw the ruined dinner (seriously, she was delivering the energy of the Anti-Spiral avatar from Gurren Lagann) Though if I'm referencing cartoon energy I gotta say Eggman delivered some legit Mojo-jo-jo power with that "oh for the love of, NO! I had no intention of doing anything evil…today" interaction.

  6. In anime when you see two people (usually a couple) sharing an umbrella itโ€™s a sign of affection, kind of a big deal to them, sharing an umbrella is like the equivalent to the Americans to say โ€œthe L wordโ€ though I donโ€™t think this is the case here.

And speaking of anime references I donโ€™t normally follow the comics but Iโ€™ve noticed several manga effects used here, glad to see manga/anime effects being used more often in western media, Iโ€™m not very familiar with western culture so idk how common this is nowadays.

  7. Oh, I bet I know what Vanilla was going to do to Rough and Tumble. She was going to totally break their spirits and with only nine words, "What would your mother think about what you're doing?"

  8. at the end on the zeti hunt arc i said i have fallen in love with IDW… i am not sure about that anymore… each great issue gets followed up by like 9 boring issues… i know these comics are targeted toward kids but the earlier arcs of IDW sonic was also targeted toward kids but it was not afraid of getting serious sometimes… but now to me it feels like one of those cartoons that are just made for 3 year olds to get laughed at… i know not all child media should be a classic that even adults can enjoy but i know sonic is more capable than just a normal child media… sorry but i think i am going to stop reading IDW sonic and start re-reading Archie and Fleetway because currently IDW is not for me anymore… and i say that with nothing but respect for IDW and anyone who likes their stories… i am not saying IDW is bad because it definitely is not bad… all i want to say is that it is not for me anymore

  9. I honestly have to wonder between the silent judging that happened to Amy and Rogue a couple dozen chapters ago, and what happened to Rough and Tumble here, I wonder when Sonic is going to get the stare down and or when she's gonna snap and show what she can do…. Vanilla is the true terror of the Sonic World, few truly know it

  10. My head canon is vanilla is like a Ex-mercenary or something like john wick
And shes desperately not trying to blow her cover of her old life now that she has a kid
so she lets others "save" her from trouble but sometimes the mask slips
